Voicebots
A voicebot, also known as a chatbot or conversational agent, is a software program that can conduct a conversation with a human user through voice or text input. Voicebots use natural language processing (NLP) and machine learning (ML) algorithms to interpret the user's intent and respond appropriately.
Voicebots can be found in various settings, such as customer service, personal assistants, and smart home devices. They can be used to answer questions, provide information, assist with tasks, and even make recommendations based on user preferences. As the popularity of voice assistants like Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant continues to grow, voicebots are becoming an increasingly common way for businesses and organizations to engage with their customers.
Background
The development of voice recognition technology can be traced back to the 1950s, but it wasn't until the 1990s that it started to gain wider use. In the early 2000s, voice-activated assistants like Microsoft's Clippy and Apple's Siri were introduced. However, these were not true voicebots as they relied heavily on human input and lacked natural language processing capabilities.
It wasn't until 2011 when Amazon introduced its voice-activated assistant, Alexa, that voicebots began to truly gain traction. Since then, other tech giants such as Google and Apple have introduced their own virtual assistants, and the use of voicebots has become increasingly common in everyday life.
Today, voicebots are being used in a wide range of industries, including healthcare, finance, and customer service. As the technology continues to evolve and improve, it's likely that we'll see even more innovative uses for voicebots in the future.
