History[edit]
Broadcasting it's programming starting in August 2010, Roger Martinez "El Comandante" formed part of Davidson Media Group's WOLI-FM 103.9 FM brokered station. Beginning with a few on-air hours brokered, he hosted and produced the show "El Agasajo Por Las Mañanas" where he and featured co-hosts would broadcast the Spanish-based morning show for growing Hispanic community of Greenville, South Carolina. Following its success, it grew to broker more than 8 hours of programming per day, allowing expansion of its programming under the company Roma Media Broadcasting, LLC.
In 2015, Davidson Media Group and its subsidiaries would go on to sell the radio station and various properties[3], effectively ending business relations with Roma Media Broadcasting, LLC. After it's sale to TBLC Media, 103.9 would officially change its format to Regional Mexican under the new name Activa 103.9.[4] Not able to find its footing in the Greenville-Spartanburg market, it would later go on to rename it's call letters to WTOB then WTOB-FM as HIS Radio. [5]
Not to be deterred by the unforeseen business negotiations, Roger Martinez would go on to begin business relations with Salem Communications and then-CEO Greg Anderson under the newly formed company, Roma Media Productions.[6] In its inception, difficulties saw it fit to end Roma Media Productions short-lived existence. Hiram Martinez, son of Roger Martinez, would go on to found Roma Media Group, Inc. (RMG, Inc.), a family-based company where Roger Martinez would consult as a private contractor. as well as various clients across the United States and Mexico. Salem Communications and RMG, Inc. would go on to form Poder 96.9 FM - 94.5 HD2. Having acquired WMUU-FM in 2013, Salem Communications renamed their call letters to WGTK-FM.[7]
By 2016, Poder FM would achieve its maximum audience reach in the local market when Salem Media Group, formerly Salem Communications, would offer their wider band, 102.9 FM. As Roma Media Group, Inc outgrew its objective, a new family company would be formed as HHR Media Entertainment. Roger Martinez would once again take the helm; allowing him to focus on his own projects while still providing minor consulting to his clients.
In 2021, Salem Media Group optimized their HD signals. Seeing Poder FM's continued success, they would go on to offer a signal upgrade. effectively moving Poder FM to their HD-4 channel.
