Walter C. Quintard (January 14, 1816 – November 10, 1899) was a two-term mayor of South Norwalk, Connecticut from 1873 to 1875 and in 1879. He was a partner in the carriage-making firm of Quintard and Smith. He is included in the Victorian and Album of Norwalk.[6] Quintard was the second chief executive of South Norwalk, succeeding Dudley P. Ely who then had a second term after Quintard's before Quintard returned to office in 1879. [7]
Quintard was a woodworker and worked at the Big Shop in Ridgefield, Connecticut where carriages were made.[8] The Big Shop was on the site of the present Congregational Church at the corner of West Lane and Main Street.[9] A carriage from his own firm, Quintard & Smith, was purchased for $142.50 and added to with harness from Stamford for a total of $175. [10]
On April 7, 1868, Quintard was a corporate sponsor for the new parish established in South Norwalk.[11] Quintard and his business partner Wm. Alex Smith served as trustees of the parochial fund.[12]
