Warkvlt (WARKVLT writing style) is a Black metal music group from Bandung which was formed on June 23, 2013. The name Warkvlt is taken from the Latin "War Occulti" which means secret war.
History
Warkvlt, previously known as Impish, was formed in 2011, but because the name was controversial, it was decided to change the band's name to Warkvlt.[1]. The band was formed by Adi, Ari, Rian, Sigit and Supriyanto on June 23, 2013 and began to be announced in a music performance event titled Jakarta Underground 4 at the Bulungan Youth Center, Jakarta [2]
The concept of Warkvlt's music is heavily influenced by Marduk, Mayhem, Dark Funeral, Infernal War, Nordjevel and Impiety with musical styles and lyrics that tell the dark side of life, darkness and evil in war.
2013-2015: First Album, Merdeka and Early Formation
In the early days of its establishment, Warkvlt already had its own material and had performed in several metal music festivaland events in Indonesia, such as the Rock in Solo festival in 2014[3] and the Hammersonic Festival in 2015. [4]
Warkvlt's self-titled debut album, which was independently released in late 2012 via the Bandcamp website, was re-released on CD in early 2013. It was then re-mastered, for successive re-releases by the label in 2013, 2015 and 2018 on CD and cassette formats.[5] [6]
Warkvlt released its second album entitled Merdeka [7] through the Persetan Records label in 2015, themed about nationalism and struggle patriotism inspired by Indonesian History (1945–1949). Released in addition to CD format, as well as digital download format, then re-released by Xenophobic Records Australia in April 2015. Warkvlt also embeds an instrumental cover version of the song Tanah Airku by Ibu Sud as the cover for this album.
The formation change began with the departure of bassist Arie "Bathory", shortly after completing his self-titled debut album and single "In Nomine Odium" in late 2013, followed by guitarist Adi "Dvon Hellvete", after Warkvlt released a split album titled Blasphemous Alliance, early 2014. Then the bassist position was continued by Agan (called Gagan) and the guitarist Adi was continued by Taufik Hidayat (called Opiek alias "E"), until the band went into a vacuum and all members of the band resigned, leaving only Opiek "E" himself shortly after its release. single "Blood Djoeang" in 2017.[8]
2017- present
Opiek then re-initiated the band by recruiting one of the band's founders Supriyanto (called Abah, alias "D")[9] as guitarist, vocalist Tandani "Daevas" Mutaqim (aka "D") [10] who is also active in several other bands such as Ensemble Tikoro, Sethos, Dismemberment Torture, Bloodgush and drummer Irza (aka "A") who is also the drummer for Joker and Noura [11] [12] with pop rock genres, then continued with the production and released their mini album Horde in 2018 [13] [14]and their third studio album titled Deathymn in 2020 [15]
Deathymn received positive response from several local[16] [17][18] and international media [19][20][21] and was nominated for best metal album and best metal album cover at the Extreme Moshpit metal music awards in 2021. [22]
