Waveswinger is a pop Mexican themed wave swinger family attraction in the fiesta village located at the Knott's Berry Farm theme park in Buena Park, California. [1]. The ride opened in the Fiesta Village on January 1, 1987. Given the location of the ride, the ride's 48 chairs are colored in an array of colors. The Fiesta Village location gives the ride a Spanish themed look. Park visitors will notice this ride as the attraction is located over one of the walkways connecting Fiesta Village with the Boardwalk. A 230 lb weight restriction is in place due to the ride manufacture's recommendation.[2]. Knott's Berry Farm previously had a much larger swing ride between 2011 and 2012 and it was known as Windseeker. While Waveswinger reaches a mild height of 40 ft, Windseeker used to reach 301 ft and rotated at 40 mph.[3] Moreover, with the closure of Windseeker, Waveswinger remains as the park's only swinging chairs ride.
Height Requirement[edit]
Waveswinger has a minimum guest requirement of 48 inches. Due to the ride manufactured structural limitations, riders must weight 230 lbs or less.It is one of the park's moderate rides designed for families. The ride is rated as moderate thrill due to a medium level of thrill. Each is accompanied by a seat belt as a primary safety measure.[2]. Riders are secured by placing a chain restraint to the swing lock.[1].
Ride Experience[edit]
Once riders pass through the blue colored station, riders select one of the 48 multi colored chairs. As Waveswinger is located in Fiesta Village, the ride's structure is painted with various Spanish vignettes. There are also a couple of Spanish inspired scenic images painted on the structure of the ride, giving it a more Spanish inspired appearance. Once the safety checks are done, the circular structure begins swinging riders from the ground to a height of 40 feet.Once the ride chairs begin lifting from the ground, the chairs begin spinning outwards.[1]. At the top of 40 feet, riders fly very close above the walkway connecting Fiesta Village and the Boardwalk. The ride provides a welcoming relief of air during the hot inland summer months. In addition, during the night operation of the ride, the ride circular structure lights up with yellow colored lights, adding to the visual experience.
