Webglobe is a Central European web hosting provider and domain registrar headquartered in Slovakia, Czech Republic, and Serbia. In addition to shared hosting services for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), the company also provides dedicated server and cloud solutions for large businesses.

Webglobe is a member of the associations CZ.NIC, EURid, SK-NIC[1], and RNIDS[2], and is an accredited registrar for the .cz, .eu, .sk, and .rs top-level domains. In addition to these, the company offers approximately 380 other domain extensions.

History

Webglobe (originally established as WEBGLOBE, s.r.o.) was founded in Slovakia on 15 January 1999. The company was established by Igor Strečko and Juraj Hanták.[3]

Initially, the company focused on web design and web development. It later expanded its portfolio to include web hosting and domain registration services.[4][5]

In 2001, Webglobe launched vasadomena.sk, its first website dedicated exclusively to web hosting services, which marked a strategic shift in the company’s focus. Over time, the company acquired several local Slovak competitors in the areas of web hosting, server management, and domain registration, including:

  • Redhost (a web hosting service of the content portal Azet.sk)
  • Nic.sk
  • Syphon.sk
  • as well as several smaller projects such as Suloco, MacHosting, Gator.sk, and PremiumHosting

In 2014, Webglobe acquired the web hosting company Yegon and subsequently rebranded it as Webglobe-Yegon, s.r.o., operating under the brand WY.[6]

In 2019, the private equity fund Sandberg Capital became an investor in the company.[7] Following this investment, Webglobe accelerated its acquisition strategy. In the same year, the company acquired the Slovak competitor Atlantis Systems.[8]

Between 2019 and 2021, Webglobe entered the Czech market through the acquisition of IGNUM,[9] [10] the owner of domena.cz. The company was rebranded as Webglobe in 2021.

In 2020, IGNUM acquired additional web hosting and related service providers, including Stable.cz[11] and its subsidiary Profitux, the sister companies Hosting 90 systems[12] and Hosting zdarma, as well as smaller providers Axfone[13] and CZ Hosting. In Slovakia, Webglobe also acquired WebhostingY.sk.

In 2021, the Slovak entity was renamed back to Webglobe and transformed into a joint-stock company under the name Webglobe, a.s.[14]

That same year, the Czech company IGNUM, s.r.o. was renamed Webglobe s.r.o.[15] The company initiated a consolidation process, merging the acquired companies into a single legal entity, unifying them under the Webglobe brand and standardizing its web hosting technology. In 2021, Webglobe further expanded in the Czech Republic by acquiring ONEbit[16] [17] and Savana.cz[18][19][20], and entered the Serbian market through the acquisition of three local hosting providers: NiNet, Eutelnet, and Panet.[21][22][23][24][25][26]

In 2021, co-founder Juraj Hanták left the company.[27] The remaining shareholders were Igor Strečko and Sandberg Capital.[28]

In 2023, the Czech branch ranked among the leading domain registrars[29][30] and its hosting packages achieved high placements in online comparisons.[31][32][33][34][35]

Present

In May 2024 Webglobe was sold to Swedish web hosting provider Group.ONE, backed by the British private equity fond Cinven and one of the world’s biggest pension fund – the Ontario Teachers‘ Pension Plan, with the goal to use Webglobe’s strong market position for the further expansion in the Central Europe region.[36]

Webglobe also continues with local expansion on the Czech market, with the acquisition of ČESKÝ WEBHOSTING company, the provider of Webhosting C4 services.[37]

As of February 2026, Webglobe manages approximately 1,200 physical servers and more than 3,000 virtual servers across around 10 data centres. The company employs approximately 100 employees and collaborators in the Czech Republic, Slovakia, and Serbia.[38]

Webglobe serves approximately 125,000 customers. In the Czech Republic, its clients include O2, Vodafone, Siemens, Prima Media Club, Slevomat, Glami, Bonami[39], Hotel.cz, Biano, AffilBox, UlovDomov.cz, Seyfor (formerly Solitea), Svoboda&Williams, Senate of the Czech Republic and StartupJobs.cz. In Slovakia, clients include Dedoles, Besteron, Riesenia.com, Tatra banka, and Pravda.sk, while in Serbia the company provides services to the pharmacy chain Lilly.
