WeddingWire Inc. was founded in 2007 after Timothy Chi[3] and his three friends and former colleagues Lee Wang, Sonny Ganguly and Jeff Yeh worked to build the site in his Chevy Chase home.[5]

In February 2008, WeddingWire Inc. received an investment of $5.5 million from Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia,[6] followed by an investment of $11 million from Catalyst Investors in December of 2011[7] and $25 million from Spectrum Equity in September 2012.[8]

In 2015, WeddingWire expanded internationally when it acquired Wedding Planner SL. The company maintained the Wedding Planner SL office in Barcelona, giving WeddingWire a presence in Europe.[2]
