Ahmed Ali (Arabic: أحمد علي; born 1998, Alexandria, Egypt), known professionally as Wegz, is an Egyptian trap artist.[1][2][3]
Early life[edit]
Wegz was born in 1998 and raised in Al Wardian, Alexandria, prior to his music career, he held a position at a telecommunication company, after gaining some success, he had to quit his job to dedicate all his time to creating music and collaborating with other artists.[4][5]
Career[edit]
Wegz started his career in 2017 releasing a few tracks including “Batalo Fake” with Hesham Raptor, and “Barbeque” both of which were closer to hardcore rap than to the style of Trap music that he became known for.[4][5][6][7] His music style is influenced by hip-hop, Mahraganat and Shaabi,[8] and best known for incorporating themes from his hometown in his music. During his career, Wegz worked closely with numerous artists either featuring them on his tracks or contributing to their music such as DJ Totti, Ahmed El-Fishawy, Molotof, Savage Plug, Hossam Hosny, Marwan Moussa and Marwan Pablo.[9][10][11][12] [13]
In March 2018, released his official debut single, “TNT”, it was the first track that embraced the Trap genre as Wegz's early songs took after a hardcore rap style.[14][15] On 1 June 2019, released Bazeet produced by DJ Tott following his classic Trap music style with some influences from mumble rap.[16] Afterward, Molto, a snacks brand, aired an advertisement with a spoof of the song named Bazeez, starring Maged El Kedwany, Ruby and Ahmed Malek.[17][18][19] His debut EP Geziret El Batal was released on October 20, 2019,[20] and a new single entitled Dorak Gai in March 2020.[21]
