Wendy Weeks
Margaret Wendy Weeks (1943 - 2004) was an Australian social worker, feminist, academic, author and editor.[1]
Feminism[edit]
Weeks is credited with bringing women's rights to the attention of government and service agencies.[2]
She was a founding member of the Australian Association for Social Work and Welfare Education, and Women Against Violence - an Australian feminist journal.[2] Weeks was a member of the Victorian Community Against Violence and Women's Health in the North.[3]
Academic Career[edit]
Weeks attended the Melbourne's Methodist Ladies' College, before studying at the University of Melbourne[3]
She worked and studied at McMaster University in Canada during the 1970's, before returning to Australia in 1982. From 1991, she worked at the University of Melbourne, as a senior lecturer and associate professor of social work. Weeks also convened a women's studies research unit while at the university.[3]
Publications[edit]
Wendy authored, edited and contributed published works relating to social work, including Issues facing Australian families: human services respond (1990); Women working together: lessons from feminist women's services (1994); Making social policy in Australia: An introduction (1997); and Community practices in Australia (2003).[4][5][6][7]
Honours[edit]
In 2005, Weeks was posthumously added to the Victorian Honour Roll of Women.[2]
