West Star Aviation is a United States–based provider of maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) services to the business aviation industry. The company offers airframe and engine maintenance, modifications, avionics installation, interior refurbishment, paint, and other services for a wide range of business aircraft.
History
West Star Aviation’s roots trace back to 1947, when its East Alton, Illinois, facility was established under the name Walston Aviation. The company was sold in 1986 and renamed Premier Air Center. In 2004, Premier Air Center acquired West Star Aviation, originally based in Grand Junction, Colorado.[1] For several years the company operated under the combined name Premier Air Center/West Star Aviation until September 2007, when it rebranded fully as West Star Aviation.[2]
During the early 2000s, West Star expanded its service offerings. Premier Air Center initially specialised in Cessna Citation maintenance, but in 2002 launched a Falcon program, which quickly grew into a major line of business. A Gulfstream program was added in 2005, followed by new paint and interior facilities that significantly increased the company’s capacity.
By the late 2000s, West Star had become a comprehensive MRO provider, adding facilities capable of servicing large aircraft such as the Bombardier Global 6000, and expanding into interior completions, avionics, and composite repair. In 2014, the East Alton site alone had grown to more than 300 employees and 317,000 square feet of FAA- and EASA-approved facilities.
Ownership of the company shifted in subsequent years. In 2016, private equity firm Norwest Equity Partners acquired West Star. In 2022, it was purchased by The Sterling Group.
in 2025 by Greenbriar Equity Group, which announced plans to continue supporting the company’s expansion and workforce development.[3]
