Westerhout 28(W28), or SNR G006.4-00.1, Kes 59 and AJG 73,[1] is a supernova remnant located in the constellation Sagittarius, about 2,000 parsecs. It was discovered by Gart Westerhout in 1958 as part of a study of continuum radiation in our galaxy at a frequency of 1390 MHz.
Age and distance
W28 is estimated to be between 32,000 and 41,000 years old. It is located approximately 1900-2000 parsecs from the Earth and has a radius of approximately 13 parsecs .
