"What Is Hip?" is a song written and performed by the soul/funk group Tower of Power, released as the third and final single from their self-titled album. It was written by founding band members Emilio Castillo, Stephen Kupka, and David Garibaldi[1]. The song peaked at No. 91 on the Billboard Hot 100 in March of 1974.
