Whom were we running from?, is a novel in which Perihan Mağden deals with a mother and her daughter's traumatic relationship. The book was released in June 2007. It was adapted into a television series by Ertan Kurtalan and released on Netflix in 2023.[1]
Karakterini uca götürmüş bir kadın anne. Suç işlemekte de beis görmüyor, kendini savunduğunu düşünüyor. Bu kadının bir öyküsü olması lazım. İnsan durduk yerde böyle olmaz. Bu da kendi annesinden gelen bir öykü...
The woman is a mother who has taken her character to the extreme. She sees no harm in committing a crime, she thinks she is defending herself. This woman must have a story. People don't become like this out of nowhere. And this story is from her own mother...
Plot[edit]
The mother is constantly running away with her daughter from the people they call "the many and the bad" because they will harm her and her daughter. The mother and daughter live in hotels, and they go to the same hotel no more than twice. The duo, who define themselves as the "Moon unit" in the mother's words and make the famous children's book "Bambi" prayer books, transform their hotel room into their home, then the mother says it's time to run away, and they leave everything behind. The mother who punishes anyone who can harm them, especially her daughter, is sometimes very upset, and sometimes angry.
Characters[edit]
In the novel Whom were we running from?, the main characters are the mother and her daughter. The name of the mother and the daughter is not stated in the novel, but the mother calls her daughter "my Bambi" because of the book that she constantly reads.
The name determines one's destiny somewhere. There are also no names for the characters in my other novels, namely The Messenger Boy Murders and The Companion. There are names in the 2 Girls, which I set out to write only as a "hyper-realistic Turkish Novel". We all have connotations in our minds about names, for example, when someone has the name of a close friend we love very much, it has a positive connotation, but the name of someone we get angry in class when we were at school has a negative connotation, etc. Therefore, names are limiting, so I wanted to free the characters in the novel from this limitation of names.[2]
Other characters[edit]
There are people other than mother and daughter. Anne ve kızdan başka şahıslar da bulunmaktadır. These are in the case of the background character. They are not very active, they only tell parts of the novel or are told through the eyes of the girl to the reader. A dog called Fetus, a gazelle cub in the book Bambi, and a crow named Mother Crow are also in the character of the novel. The other characters are; [[Dosya:Bambivhscover.jpg|thumb|157x157px|The book Bambi has an important place in the mother-daughter relationship in the novel.]]
