    Wialon is a platform for GPS tracking[1] and IoT, which allows users to track mobile and stationary assets (vehicles, machinery, buildings, mobile personnel, pets, etc.). It is developed by the private company Gurtam[2] with offices in Vilnius, Minsk, Moscow, Boston, Dubai, Buenos Aires. The platform is distributed through the network of satellite monitoring systems integrators. As of September 2021, more than 3,000,000 tracking assets are connected to Wialon.

    In 2020, Berg Insight research agency announced Wialon[3] to be the leading fleet tracking and management system in Eastern Europe, CIS countries, and Russia[4]

    Functionality[edit]

    • Tracking of the asset’s location and its movement on the map;
    • Monitoring of the asset’s speed, fuel level, temperature, etc.;
    • The asset management (command execution, automatic task execution) and driver behavior control (SMS, calls, assignments);
    • Receiving notifications on the asset’s activity;
    • Tracking of the asset’s movement along the defined route;
    • Report generation (tables, graphs) based on the information received from an asset;
    • Customizable interface and user access.

    The platform receives data from sensors installed in the monitored unit, processes it, and shows it in the form of reports and graphs. The data obtained can be exported to files of various formats.

    Wialon is distributed in two formats:

    • Software as a service (SaaS) – Wialon Hosting installed in the Wialon server center
    • Server-based software with modular structure – Wialon Local for installation on the client’s server

    Wialon mobile application for iOS and Android is available for the cloud and server versions of the platform.

    Scope of application[edit]

    • Real-time tracking
    • Fleet efficiency
    • Video monitoring
    • Maintenance management
    • Driving quality improvement
    • Fuel consumption control
    • Staff management
    • Route vehicle management
    • Delivery monitoring
    • Effective housing and utility transport
    • Vehicle theft prevention
    • Integration with accounting systems

    Development on Wialon[edit]

    To develop platform-based solutions, the developers provide an SDK. Open API enables the integration of Wialon with other services such as accounting systems, for example.
