Wibbitz is an automated video creation company headquartered in New York City, with offices in Tel Aviv [1] and Paris [2]. Wibbitz offers a product line of online video creation software that enables businesses to produce professional short form video[3] in minutes [4].
Company History[edit]
Wibbitz was founded in 2011 by Zohar Dayan and Yotam Cohen while the two were classmates at IDC Herzliya’s Zell Entrepreneurship Program. The company was one of five winners at Seedcamp Tel Aviv, an early-stage micro seed investment and mentoring program.[5]
In 2012, Wibbitz raised $2.3 million in Series A as a web-based text-to-video platform.[6] It was among the first video technologies to introduce the short-form text video format of reporting that is now commonplace. [7] The following year, Wibbitz launched a consumer-facing mobile application that won the Netexplo Grand Prix Innovation Award. [8]
In 2015, Wibbitz raised another $8 million in Series B funding,[9] officially launched in the U.S. market as an automated text-to-video platform, [10] and secured a patent for the full process of converting non-video information into a video using natural language processing algorithms. [11] At this time, Wibbitz worked primarily with news publishers, [12] and played a key role in the rise of online video in publisher’ strategies [13] by partnering with brands like Forbes, [14] Bonnier, [15] TMZ, [16] and the Daily Mail. [17]
Wibbitz raised an additional $20M in funding in 2017, with strategic investors including BDMI, The Weather Channel, The Associated Press, and TF1.[18]
Wibbitz opened its platform to brands and agencies in 2018, following an increase in organic interest from marketing, advertising, and communications teams.[19]
In November 2019, Wibbitz was recognized as the 8th fastest growing company in North America, and the second-fastest growing company in the New York Tri-state area,[20] on Deloitte’s 2019 Technology Fast 500 list. [21]
In 2020, Wibbitz launched a new version of its online video creation platform called Studio, designed for teams and enterprise companies to produce short-form video for social media, marketing, news, communications, and recruitment.[22]
As of 2020, Wibbitz has raised a total of $30.8M in funding.[23] Investors include [[BDMI, NantMobile, lool ventures, The Associated Press, Horizons Ventures and The Weather Channel. [24]
