The Wide Open Walls Sacramento Mural Festival is an annual international street art festival held every year since 2017 in Sacramento, California, United States. This year, the festival is taking place from August 9th to August 19th, 2018. In 2017, the festival was organized from August 10th to August 20th, 2017.[1] [2] [3][4] There was a participation of over 40 mural artists from the world over in the first edition of the festival[5] [6] [7], with local artists painting the back wall of the Golden1 Arena in Sacramento and the Improv Alley[8]. This year’s event adds to the region’s already venerable history of Mural painting – which has produced over 600 murals over the last 40 years. [9][10] Wide Open Walls began as Sacramento Mural Festival[11] in 2016. In September 2017, it was reported in the media that some of the murals painted during Wide Open Walls 2017 have been defaced or painted over and there was a debate whether the murals should be allowed to be painted over after the art festival is over or should they be preserved. [12] [13]
