Wilfried Bolewski (born March 18, 1943, in Berlin) is a German diplomat and a scholar of international law and diplomacy[1][2]
Life[edit]
Bolewski studied first at the University of Marburg where he completed a doctorate in law. He went on to obtain a diploma in international law from the Graduate Institute of International Studies in Geneva in 1972.[3][4][not in citation given]
Career[edit]
He was Germany's ambassador to Jamaica from 1993 to 1997. As such, he was also accredited as ambassador to the Bahamas and Belize and the Commonwealth of the Bahamas, and Germany's Permanent Representative to the International Sea-Bed Authority in Kingston, Jamaica.[5][6][7]
From 2003 to 2006, he was deputy chief of protocol to chancellors Gerhard Schroeder and then to Angela Merkel.[8][9]
He became professor of diplomacy and international law at the Free University of Berlin in 2008.[10] In 2014, he joined the American Graduate School in Paris as a professor of diplomacy and international law.[11][12] He has lectured on diplomacy at the University of Oxford[13] and has been a diplomatic commentator on France 24 and the BBC.[14][15][16]
