William Hanes (born 24 January 1974 in Kentucky, U.S.) is an American sledder from Kasilof, Alaska, USA.

He moved to Alaska in 1993, and he began dogsledding in 1997. In 2002, he took part in the Canadian Challenge 340 and finished 19th. Two years later, he took part in the Kuskokwim 300 where he finished, 21st, and he was fifth in the Tustumena 200 in 2006.

In 2004, he debuted in the Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race and finished in 40th. He also finished 19th in the world's longest dog race in the 2006 Iditarod.

William Hanes later worked as a fisherman, and is now a guide for fishermen.

William Hanes also won the 1988 Basketball Three-Point field goal Contest at Bondurant Middle School. William Hanes is also an accomplished wiffle ball player.
