Wilson Waweru (born 27 December 2000) is an Irish professional footballer who plays as a forward for League of Ireland side Sligo Rovers.[5]
Career
Galway United
Having come through the academy at Mervue United,[4] Waweru moved to Galway United in March 2017.[6] After progressing through the U17's and U19's sides with The Tribesmen, Waweru was promoted to the first team in 2018 by then manager Alan Murphy[4] and made his senior debut in league football on 6 July 2018, as he came on as a 90th-minute substitute for Conor Barry during a 4–1 win against Athlone Town in the League of Ireland First Division.[7] He would go on to make four more appearances in league and cup before the 2018 season came to a conclusion.[4]
Cobh Ramblers (loan)
On 24 January 2023, after becoming a mainstay in the Galway United side and clocking up over 90 appearances, scoring almost 20 goals, Waweru was loaned out to fellow League of Ireland First Division side Cobh Ramblers for the duration of the 2023 campaign.[8] During his stay at The Rams, Waweru went on to feature 36 times across all competitions, scoring 15 goals in the process as Cobh finished third in the table.[9]
Sligo Rovers
On 18 December 2023, Waweru signed for League of Ireland Premier Division side Sligo Rovers for an undisclosed fee and penned a two-year deal ahead of the 2024 campaign.[5] He made his debut for Rovers on 24 February 2024 during a 0–0 draw against Derry City; he came on as an 83rd-minute substitute for Max Mata.[10][11] On 21 July 2024, Waweru scored the first hat-trick of his senior career during the Third Round of the FAI Cup against Cobh Wanderers.[12][13]
