WizG is an American DJ/production duo formed in 2017 by Josh Wizan and Kostas Garcia.[2] Started in 2017, the group achieved popularity on Spotify and SoundCloud as part of the EDM movement and has released tracks with Grammy nominated artists, combining elements of dance music with pop, techno, electro, progressive house and synthpop influences.[2] They are known for singles released on social media and streaming platforms. After they graduated, the duo moved back to L.A. to produce "quality electronic dance music that leaves a lasting impression on our listeners, inspiring them to pursue their dreams or simply get lost in the temporary world they create".[3] The duo is independent.[4]

History[edit]

2017: Beginnings[edit]

Josh and Kostas met in Los Angeles, California and grew up attending school together. They became close towards the end of high school and continued as friends throughout college, attending an EDM festival where they "fell in love with Dance music".[5] Wizan started producing in Ableton in the beginning of 2017.[3] After graduating and moving back to L.A., the duo linked up again to form WizG, "a combination of our two last names Wizan and Garcia".[5] Released on streaming platforms in December 2017, their debut single "Beautiful Lie" received positive reviews.[6]

2018: Collaborations and independent releases[edit]

The duo has featured female vocals on their releases; "Beautiful Lie", their debut single, featured 'close friend' Nora Kenza on the vocal spotlight.[7] In their next release, "Raging Sea", the group featured their "good friend and Grammy nominated artist" Georgi Kay, fresh off her release of "Guilty Pleasures", which is a track they ´had the privilege of hearing live before its official release´, remarking, "She was a joy to work with in the studio and is talented as all hell."[3] Soon after, the duo released "Pain", featuring Eliza Spear described as "involving yourself with a toxic person and the clarity that comes to light when you can’t help them".[3] Wizan invited collaborations in an article, saying "If you’re reading this and want to work with us feel free to DM us. We love working with aspiring artists that are hungry and have the same amount of passion towards music as we do."[2]

2018: Media appearances and reviews[edit]

Having appeared in HBT Magazine, Music AllNew, EDM.com and vlogs, the group is "genuinely surprised and grateful for how positive of a response" they have received.[8] At the time of writing, they had 100,000 plays on SoundCloud and were present on multiple Spotify playlists.[8] Kostas said, "Although stats are great, we look forward to only going up with future tracks. It’s the response from friends and comments on social media that have been the most gratifying. It’s a very rewarding feeling getting a Snapchat from friends bumping our track and seeing how much they’re enjoying our music. As an artist, you’re going to have a biased opinion towards your own track, so seeing a positive response from not only friends, but fans too, is justification that we are doing something right, and keeps us motivated."[2]

Musical Style[edit]

The duo credited many sources that influenced their musical style.[2] They were inspired by "not only electronic dance music icons such as Martin Garrix, Zedd, The Chainsmokers, and Tiësto", yet also incorporated "love for all genres of music" into their tracks, with dance, progressive house, and electronic at the forefront.[2] In 2013, Wizan and Garcia experienced their first music festival at Coachella, "which really opened our eyes to the idea of making music, sparking the idea of becoming producers".[3]

Visual concepts[edit]

WizG is noted for its use of ´colorful, nature-inspired visuals´ associated with their music productions.[3] The covers for the singles "Beautiful Lie", "Raging Sea", and "Pain" feature flower and water motifs.[6] "Raging Sea" and "Pain" feature a crashing wave and a broken rose, because they want people to "see our art and title of the song and know right away the message it's giving across".[2] For "Beautiful Lie", they chose a flower because "while flowers can be beautiful they can also be deceiving".[2]
