Wolfgang Neuber

Wolfgang Neuber (* March 15, 1956 in Vienna) is a New German Literature (Neuere Deutsche Literatur) professor at the Free University of Berlin.[1]

Career[edit]

Neuber studied German studies, English studies, American studies and philosophy at the University of Vienna. He received his doctorate in 1980 summa cum laude in from with his work on Johann Nestroy's rhetoric.[2] From 1980 to 1989, Neuber worked as a research assistant at the University of Vienna. In 1988, he was awarded a Habilitation in New German Literature.

Neuber was active as an assistant professor at the University of Vienna from 1989 to 1995, and he served as a guest lecturer and substitute professor at the University of Marburg (1988 and 1993) and the VU University Amsterdam (1989). In 1995, Neuber accepted an invitation to teach at the Goethe University Frankfurt, where he was a professor for New German Literature with a focus on baroque and rhetoric until 2000. Since then, Neuber has been a professor for New German Literature (as well as Neo-Latin Literature and Early-Modern European Literature) at the Free University of Berlin and was head of research for Middle German Literature. In August 2010, Neuber accepted a guest professorship at New York University in Abu Dhabi, where he taught as a Visiting Professor of Literature.[3] He was also a guest professor at Peking University, the University of Breslau, the University of Olsztyn and the University of Korea

Neuber was invited to serve at an Institute of Advanced Study (Wissenschaftskolleg) twice: From October 1998 to January 1999 he researched as a senior fellow at the IFK (International Research Center of Cultural Science) in Vienna and from September 2008 to June 2009 at the NIAS (Netherlands Institute for Advanced Study in the Humanities and Social Sciences) in Wassenaar.
