Women In Games International (WIGI) is an international nonprofit organization founded in 2005 with the aim to increase representation and inclusion of women, non-binary, and femme-identifying individuals in the gaming industry.[1] WIGI hosts panels, workshops, and mentorship programs for women trying to start a career in gaming. [2]
The mission of the organization is "To cultivate resources to advance economic equality and diversity in the global games industry."[1]
History
In 2013, Women In Games International partnered with Girl Scouts of the Greater Los Angeles to create a video game design patch. Girl Scouts in the troop can earn this patch by developing their own video games using Gamestar Mechanic software.[3]
In 2021, Women In Games International received a $1 million grant from Activision Blizzard to help fund programs focused on professional development for women trying to join or advance in the gaming industry.[4]
In 2022, WIGI was nominated for Gayming Magazine's Gayming Awards 2022 Industry Diversity Award.[5]
