The Wooden Stone School, is a defunct school in Onsted, Lenawee County, Michigan, built in 1850, and restored in the years 1989 and 2018.
History[edit]
The school was built by the Reverend Robert Wooden in 1850 whom was a strong believer in education. It was the school for Cambridge School District 6 and is made of fieldstone.[1] It was in operation from 1837 when Michigan became a state to 1955. It is believed to be the oldest one room schoolhouse remaining in Lenawee County.[2] It became a state historic site on June 19, 1979.[3] In 1897 the school had the following officials: Eleazer Blackman Durkee was the Director, F. S. Wooden was the Moderator, and C. R. Killbury was the Assessor.[4]
Renovation project[edit]
It was first restored in 1989 but in 2018 a second restoration project was done.[5]
