    World Creator is a professional real-time terrain and landscape generation software developed by BiteTheBytes GmbH, designed for creating both procedural and hand-crafted 3D environments. Widely used in video game development, film production, and simulation, World Creator can be used to create large terrains with advanced customization options, including the ability to shape, texture, and populate landscapes in real-time.

    History

    It was first introduced on March 8, 2016 [1] as a real-time procedural terrain generation tool for the Unity Engine. The basis of the software at that time was “GeoControl 2”, which was taken over by BiteTheBytes.[2] Over time, the software changed from a pure plugin to a standalone software which itself provides plug-ins for use in numerous 3D products.

    In 2017, World Creator 2 Pro was released as a standalone version for Windows, introducing real-time terrain editing, which was a significant milestone for the software. It was one of the first terrain generators to fully leverage the GPU for rapid landscape development, drastically reducing the time required to create large, detailed terrains. This version also added support for game engines like Unity through Sync-export functions. The standalone software itself was also created with the Unity Engine.

    In April 2022, World Creator 3.0 for Windows was launched, which was marketed as World Creator 2022. It represented a fundamental revision of the software functions and ran on its own engine. It also dispensed with node-based graphs and relied on the filter layer system. The release also introduced direct bridges with Cinema 4D, Unreal Engine, and Blender, facilitating real-time previews and faster workflow integration. Since then, the software has been continuously updated and the year and quarter are used as the version number.

    Use in Film and Game Production

    World Creator is used in high-end production environments across various industries. Notably, it has been involved in creating natural landscapes for virtual productions, including being used in projects similar to those using Unreal Engine's real-time capabilities, such as The Mandalorian and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.[3]
