Meetup events[edit]

Write the Docs supports local, volunteer-run events in different cities. Local meetup events take place in cities across North America, Europe, Oceania, and Asia.[3]

Concepts[edit]

Documentarians[edit]

Write the Docs makes a practice of defining a documentation-specific usage of "documentarians" to broaden the practice of documentation from a job title to an "independent identity".[4]

A documentarian is someone who cares about documentation and communication in the software industry, regardless of job title.

Docs as code[edit]

Building on the interdisciplinary focus of Write the Docs, the concept of "docs as code" is often central to Write the Docs meetups. "Docs as code" refers to “writing documentation with the same tools as code” including plain text markup, code reviews, version control, and issue trackers".[5]

History[edit]

Write the Docs was established in 2013 by Troy Howard, Eric Redmond, and Eric Holscher as an extension of Read the Docs, an open sourced free software documentation hosting platform.[6] The first Write the Docs conference took place in Portland, Oregon on April 8-9, 2013.[7][8][9]
