Xersize[edit]
Martin Möller (born April 24, 1991), better known by his stage name Xersize (pronounced ”Exercise”) is a Swedish rapper and producer from Eskilstuna, Sweden.
Early life[edit]
Xersize was born in Eskilstuna, Sweden, in 1991. His mother and father were separated before his birth and though he grew up with his mother he used to spend the weekends and vacations with his father. He has four siblings (two older sisters, one older brother and a little sister).
He spent his primary school years at Slottsskolan, Odlarskolan, and Djurgårdsskolan and went to senior high school at St Eskils Gymnasium in his home town of Eskilstuna. He knew early on that music was what he wanted to do, and he used to spend his allowance on music albums. He first performed at the age of 13 at his school with a rap song that he wrote and produced himself.
In 2009, Xersize entered a local rap competition and came in second. About a week after his performance he was contacted by the organizer of the competition who said that he was putting together a collective of rappers and producers and wanted Xersize to be a part of it. That's when he met the producers Illegal and oNe who he started working closely with. In May 2010 Xersize was a part of Music Against Drugs, a yearly concert that was held in the heart of Stockholm and headlined by the likes of Lazee, Ken Ring, Dogge Doggelito, etc.
Alongside Illegal and oNe, Xersize released a few singles on YouTube and started getting booked around Sweden.
2013-2016: 4 Minute Masterpiece and HyTown Records[edit]
In 2013 he released the song and video for 4 Minute Masterpiece which is a four minute long song in chopper rap style recorded in one continuous take. Xersize got inspired to make the song after seeing UnderRated from Potluck and his 2 Minute Drill and 3 Minute Miracle. That video was his first to reach 10.000 views on YouTube and it caught the attention of B'LoCo, the head of the independent record label HyTown Records based out of Massachusetts, USA. B'LoCo offered Xersize to be a part of HyTown and Xersize accepted the offer.
Through HyTown, Xersize featured on a few albums including Hype Killz by B'LoCo (on the song An Empty Venue with 2 Broken Microphones) and the soundtrack album from an annual event held by HyTown called Blazed And Confused, alongside famous rappers Royce da 5'9” and Bizarre. In 2016, Xersize released an EP called Before Massachusetts ahead of the release of his planned debut album that was to be called From Massachusetts to Sweden as well as a few singles, but the album was scrapped by Xersize when he decided to leave HyTown Records in late 2016 due to creative differences.
2017-present: Re-release of Before Massachusetts and debut album[edit]
Xersize parted ways with his producers in 2017 and started spending time learning how to mix his own music. He took down Before Massachusetts from stores and re-released it in 2018 with the added inclusion of a skit by internet comedian and YouTube personality MK (known for his MK Loves series on YouTube) as well as the song Independent Living that featured Potluck and was produced by UnderRated after he had heard 4 Minute Miracle and was impressed by it.
In December 2018, he released his single Death Certificate that was produced by American recording artist, producer and head of the underground rap collective Skar'D Up Records VanLee XII. The song is a diss track against mumble rap, and in the song, Xersize takes shots at various mumble rappers including XXXTentacion, Lil Mosey, Lil Yachty, Tekashi 6ix9ine and fellow Swedish rapper Yung Lean, among others. The song garnered him some attention from around the globe and he got invited to be a part of Skar'D Up, to which he said yes.
Xersize announced that he was working on two consecutive albums in 2019, one in English and one in his native Swedish. He released three singles from the English album in 2019 (Empire, Yellow Roses, and Broken) before releasing his debut album in December 2019, eponymously named Xersize. The album reached over 4000 streams on Spotify alone within the first week.
