YFU Baby
Introduction
YFU Baby, also known as YFU for short, is a 3D anime-styled musician and live streamer. She live-streamed her debut on Twitch in July 2020, and has since released her first EP SIXTY6 on a majority of music streaming platforms.
During her live streams, she communicates with fans, performs music live, and interacts with her artificially intelligent Smart House GIGA. On the 15th of September 2020, she became the first virtual entertainer to interact on Instagram Live, calling hip-hop artist The Hxliday.
While Virtual artists are a relatively new concept in the United States, they have been popular in Japan for fifteen years.[1]
Overview
YFU Baby is a hip hop vocalist and producer in addition to being a virtual personality. From her debut, YFU’s Twitch streams have centered first and foremost around hip hop music and have included Listening Parties to provide an opportunity for up-and-coming producers to exhibit their music and live performances of her own songs. In addition to music, YFU engages with her other interests with her viewers – including video games, anime, and memes. Her performance space is the artificially intelligent Smart House ‘GIGA’, who controls visualizations for her performances, interacts with her and viewers using a speech synthesizer, and utilizes a large wall-mounted LED screen to play video.
Biography
At only 18 years old, YFU Baby has been described as “cuteness with a punch” – a virtual rapper that naturally adapts to a variety of genres to create new and unique sounds.[2]
YFU Baby is believed to be the sister of Project Melody. She was featured on the #Goodlookingout show on Complex [3] YFU lives in a smart house called Giga. She has pink hair and is also known for her fashion sense. She also has glasses that appear and disappear. [4]
After being exposed to the dual influences of Hip Hop and Internet Culture [5] YFU Baby could not help but be consumed by a burning desire to carve her own unique path into the world of performance. After carefully practicing and honing her craft, she unleashed a barrage of music into the world that combined the extremes of kitsch online presence with a fearsome and sensual realness.[6]
Always looking up to her inspirations like Lil’ Uzi Vert and Rico Nasty, YFU has aspired to make her own name within the world of Hip Hop by inviting all listeners in to find themselves totally engrossed in a musical style that is fun and insightful in equal measure. Emblazoned with her signature “66” and accompanied by an arsenal of groundbreaking technology, YFU has opened the doors to a world that is creatively uncompromising while simultaneously welcoming to all.
When not engrossed in writing or performing, YFU loves to hang out with her fans on Twitch and throughout the rest of the online world.
