Yellowfin is a global business intelligence (BI), analytics, dashboard and reporting software vendor. It develops and markets a suite of products that are used to transform, access, analyse and report on data held in common business data stores including spreadsheets, Web APIs and databases.
Yellowfin was founded in Melbourne, Australia in 2003 by IT and business intelligence industry veterans.
The company released its first revision of Yellowfin, a ROLAP (Relational OLAP) browser-based web application for a SAAS software vendor in 2004.
Yellowfin BI is based on Java open server architecture and was in the first group of new bread BI tools, that were 100% web-based and not based on a legacy GUI architecture.
Gartner has recognised Yellowfin in their annual Magic Quadrant since 2015, a listing of the top 20 BI tools globally. In 2020, Gartner upgraded their recognition of Yellowfin in the global BI marketplace to a visionary company.
Yellowfin Signals released in 2018 was a move into the Gartner hyped augmented analytics space. The signals capability uses automated mathematical analysis of data to generate personalized alerts of interesting changes.
Yellowfin has continued to find favour with the Independent Service Vendors market providing a solution to vendors who had legacy products or successful products with poor analytics.
