Rabbi Yitzchok Yehoshua Heshel Friedman' fondly known as R' Shiala" is the seventh Rebbe of the Sadigura chasidus. He leads his court from Bnei Brak, Israel. He is the fifth son of his father, the late Ateres Yisroel of Sadigura. He was raised in London's Stamford Hill neighborhood, where he attended the Belzer Cheder. He later joined Gateshead Yeshiva, and then Mir Yeshiva in Jerusalem, where he studied under Rabbi Asher Arieli. His father publicly held him in high esteem, describing his as "my future", and "tzaddik yesod olam". When he was still very young, his father stood up when he entered a room, treatment normally reserved for those of higher status. At age 22, he married Malka Shternbauch of Antwerp, and moved to her home city where he lived until his father's passing. Upon the completion of the shiva period for his father, the deceased's will was read, where it was clearly stated that he was to take his father's place as spiritual leader of all Sadigura institutions worldwide. His mother and three of his elder brothers objected to the appointment, and Rabbis Mordechai Shalom Yosef "Meshi" and Aharon Dov Ber "Arele" Friedman were subsequently appointed to lead the Sadigura synagogues in Jerusalem and London respectively. These appointments were swiftly rejected by the vast majority of Sadigura Chassidim, who consider R' Shiala the only legitimate heir to his father's throne.[1]
