Yoni (Jonathan) Gera (born June 2, 1978) is an Israeli television creator and director. Yoni studied at The Steve Tisch School of Film and Television, Tel Aviv University.
He began his professional career in 2004 when, together with Ilan Rosenfeld, Kobi Farag and Oded Paz, he created "Zarevet", a daily sketch show that was broadcast on the Israeli music channel. He later worked on with HaPijamot and wrote several episodes for the series.
Yoni directed the spin-off series of HaPijamot "HaPijamot in Cafe Kar Sol" Seasons 1 + 2 and "HaPijamot in the Dovale Show" and even wrote some of the episodes.
Throughout most of the seasons of the series HaPijamot, Gera appeared as a guest actor in the role of Bye Guinness (host of a daily entertainment program) under the name "late Night with Bay Guinness" (a parody of the program "Good evening with Guy Pines").
Yoni directed the series "Our City", a sketch show starring Ilan Rosenfeld, Kobi Farag, Yuval Segal, Oded Paz and Liat Har-Lev. Together with Oded Paz, Yoni created and directed the series "The Complicated Cook," a cooking program for children led by Oded Paz and Yuval Segal.
In addition, he directed TV reports for the entertainment program "Y" on Channel 10, served as a daily director in the reality show "Big Brother" in seasons 2, 3, 4. He edited and directed the daily humor strip of the Israeli music channel hosted by Dror Rafael ("The Illusions Quiz"). He edited the humor and satire program on Radio 99 "Side Kick".
In 2006, he created and directed the first cellular docu-series in Israel that followed the recordings of Ninet Tayeb's first album. The series was nominated at the 2006 Mip Festival in Cannes.
In 2010 he directed for the Disney channel "The Shavit Ventura Show" .
Since 2012 he has been directing the very successful children's series "HaKalmarim" starring the children's stars Udi and Aviad.
In 2015, he directed the series "Here I Come" with Oded Paz and Ilan Rosenfeld, "Little Michal and the Monsters", "Hug of Shabbat" with Grandpa Tuvia and the children's program "Doctor Libby".
In 2016, he directed another season of "The Little Michal and the Monsters" and "The Program" - a special tribute to the children and youth programs of the historic Israeli Educational Television led by Ilan Rosenfeld and Eliana Tidhar.
In 2017, he directed "Hop nights", "Songs from Beit Saba" and the series "My sister skipped a grade" starring Bar Miniali, Omer Hazan, Oded Menashe, Tali Oren and others.
In 2018, he filmed season 2 of the hit series “My sister skipped a grade”. In addition this year Yoni continued to work with the Hop! Channel and directed Season 3 for “Little Michal and the Monsters”.
In 2019, he directed the All-family sitcom "Mishpaha Be'Hanpaka" ('Startup Family') by HOT.
In 2020, he directed the series "Mahane Aba" for yes, starring Asi Israeloff, Uri Gavriel, Uri Leizerovich, Kim Or Azulai and others.
Yoni is the son of Adv. Ehud Gera, former director general of the Ministry of Economic Strategy, and the grandson of Gero Gera, a senior member of the police and the first prison commissioner in Israel. Married to Avigail Lapin Gera, a journalist at the Yedioth Ahronoth group and a blogger and in September 2016 their eldest daughter was born.
