Tomer Aviram

Tomer Aviram (Hebrew: תומר אבירם‎; born 19 May 1977) is an Israeli director, screenwriter, and playwright.[1] He is best known for The Good Cop.

Career[edit]

Tomer Aviram's first short film, Walking on Thin Rope, which he wrote and directed as a student in 2001, generated great interest. Aviram dedicated the film to the memory of director and playwright Hanoch Levin, who died of cancer a few months before the film was filmed.[2]

From 2002-2005, Aviram took part in the television program Behind the News on Channel 10 with Yair Nitzani, where he directed various skits and field articals for 3 seasons.[3]

In 2006-2007, Aviram wrote and directed a weekly sketch for the popular satire program Eretz Nehederet.

In 2008, Aviram directed the second season of the drama series I Didn't Promise You[4] while also functioning as the senior editor during the second season of the series Exposed.

Between 2009-2011, Aviram developed a number of projects for Keshet, Channel 10, and Comedy Central. He also directed the pilot episode for the comedy series Stop, Police,[5] which he created and wrote with his brother, Erez Aviram. During this time he started his new role of editor-in-chief for the production of Big Brother.

By 2015, Aviram began working on creating the show, The Good Cop,[6] which he later also directed. That same year, Aviram wrote a play in collaboration with playwright Shay Shabtai, Shush, She's Sleeping, premiered November 24 in Haifa Theater.[7]

In early 2017, Aviram co-wrote and directed the second season of The Good Cop which was broadcast in Israel on 4 April 2017 ending on July 12, 2017. In May 2017, YES announced that a third season was green lit and filming will begin in October 2018.

On June 20, 2017, Netflix announced that they would produce an American version of The Good Cop, which is based on the show that Tomer and Erez Aviram created. Netflix later announced that the series will star Tony Danza and Josh Groban. The series will feature 10 episodes with an average length of one hour, and will air on September 21, 2018.[8]
