Z Street (organization)

Z Street is a pro-Israel organization located in the United States. It was the last-settled, or next-to-last-settled, case in the IRS targeting controversy.[1]
It was founded by Lori Lowenthal Marcus and Allyson Rowen Taylor in 2009.[2] Writings in 2009 criticized the J Street advocacy group and an October 2009 "J Street Conference", as well as other "mainstream" Jewish organizations.[3] The group accepted members at an $18 annual rate.[4]
It applied for tax-exempt status with the U.S. Internal Revenue Service (IRS) in 2009.[5]
It has been asserted that the IRS would not provide the truth for why its application was delayed.[6]
Its tax-exempt status was approved in 2016 before the 2016 election.[7]
A settlement of the U.S. Justice Department included an apology from the IRS to Z Street.[8]
It is hosted from, or located in, Pennsylvania.[9]
It is suggested, at least by an adversarial blog, that "Z Street" name is a reference to J Street, an established advocacy organization. The blog states Z Street was founded by Lori Lowenthal Marcus and Allyson Rowen Taylor, and was started with announcement "Z Street is launched, Will end J Street Treason."[10] The "Z" is asserted to stand for Zionist.[11]
