Brigadier General Zaw Moe Than (Script error: The function "langx" does not exist.; born Myanmar) is a Burmese senior police officer in the Myanmar Police Force, who gained national attention in 2020 following his conviction for sexual exploitation of female subordinates.[1][2]

Allegations and investigation

In early 2020, allegations emerged that Zaw Moe Than had been demanding sexual favors from female subordinates in exchange for promotions and career advancement. At least eight officers formally reported the misconduct to the Ministry of Home Affairs, prompting an internal investigation.[4][5]


Trial and conviction

Zaw Moe Than was charged under the Myanmar Police Force Maintenance of Discipline Law, which prohibits misconduct and abuse of power by police personnel. The trial was conducted publicly and involved testimony from multiple victims as well as internal police investigators.[6][7]

On 3 July 2020, he was found guilty and sentenced to imprisonment. He was subsequently transferred to Yamethin Prison in Mandalay Region to serve his sentence.[8][9]
