Zelma Stone is an American Indie folk band from San Francisco, California.

History[edit]

Zelma Stone formed in 2017 to bring to life a collection of songs Chloe Zelma Studebaker wrote over nearly 10 years as a singer-songwriter. The band invokes touches of Big Thief, Angel Olsen, and Jefferson Airplane in their songwriting and performances.[2]

Layla (2019)[edit]

"Layla" was recorded at Light Rail Studios and released on January 19, 2019 through Honey House Records.[3][4] Front woman Chloe Zelma chose to feature a collection of songs that were written after numerous hardships and losses. The EP is named after Chloe's dog that she inherited from her brother Brett, who passed away in 2009. Zelma Stone used the EP to explore themes of loss, heartbreak, grief, sexual harassment, and the discovery of one's self worth. On the topic of her songwriting, Chloe states, “writing these songs felt as if I stuffed all my pain, grief and anger into a magical, healing, glass bottle. Releasing them feels as if I’m throwing this bottle out to sea in hopes that someone will discover it and find their own meaning and healing from it”[5]
