Zenobia Shroff is an Indian-American actress appearing in film, theater and television. Shroff is best known for her breakthrough role in 2017's The Big Sick[1], and she co-stars on the upcoming Disney+ show Ms. Marvel (TV series).[2][3]
Biography[edit]
Encouraged by theater actress Pearl Padamsee, Shroff left her native Mumbai in her teens to pursue acting at New York City’s Circle in the Square theater school.[4][5] Shroff has acted in Hollywood and Bollywood films. She and her The Big Sick co-stars shared a nomination for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture at the 24th annual Screen Actors Guild Awards.[6] She also provided the voice of Counselor Jerry in the Oscar-winning animated film Soul (2020 film).
Before Ms. Marvel, Shroff's television work included recurring parts on The Resident on Fox and Showtime’s The Affair; in the latter role, The New York Times said Shroff "goes from funny to almost frightening in her intensity."[7]
Shroff's first one-woman stage show, "Exotic Observations," was performed at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theater[8] and the South Asian International Performing Arts Festival.[9] Her 2016 one-woman show, "How to Succeed as an Ethnically Ambiguous Actor," garnered nominations for best actor and best director at the Planet Connections Festival awards.[10]
Shroff, who holds a master's degree in psychology, has also spent time teaching acting and movement to disadvantaged children in the New York City area.[11] Shroff is a member of the Parsi community.[4]
