Zenobia Shroff is an Indian-American actress appearing in film, theater and television. Shroff is best known for her breakthrough role in 2017's The Big Sick[1] and can currently be seen on Showtime's The Affair.[2]

Biography[edit | edit source]

Encouraged by theater actress Pearl Padamsee, Shroff left her native Mumbai in her teens to pursue acting at New York City’s Circle in the Square theater school.[3][4] Shroff has acted in Hollywood and Bollywood films, more recently branching into television. She and her The Big Sick co-stars shared a nomination for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture at the 24th annual Screen Actors Guild Awards.[5]

Shroff's first one-woman stage show, "Exotic Observations," was performed at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theater[6] and the South Asian International Performing Arts Festival.[7] Her 2016 one-woman show, "How to Succeed as an Ethnically Ambiguous Actor," garnered nominations for best actor and best director at the Planet Connections Festivity awards.[8]

Shroff, who holds a master's degree in psychology, has also spent time teaching acting and movement to disadvantaged children in the New York City area.[9] Shroff is a member of the Parsi community.[3]
