Zhanshuo (Jason) Zhang (Chinese: 张展硕; pinyin: Zhāng zhǎnshuò; born 8 August 2005) is a Chinese-American pianist. He is the youngest finalist in the Imola International Piano Competition.[1]
Biography[edit]
From Tianjin, China, Zhang was originally introduced to the piano at age 3. He began his piano studies at age 4 as a Tianjin Music University Graduate.[2] Zhang was the second-place winner in the 2012 Imola International Piano Competition in the Northern China section, as well as in the 2014 Second Golden Bell National Open Piano Competition in Tianjin. He won first place in the 2014 Sunflower Cup Piano Competition and 2014 Tianjin First Piano Competition.[3] Zhang received second place in the 2017 Second Lang Lang Peace Cup Piano Competition.
In February 2017, Zhang moved to Fairfield, Connecticut and moved to Greer, South Carolina in August of that year. In the spring of 2018, he won first prize at the Laurence Hamilton Morton Piano Scholarship.[4] Since 2021, Zhang has won numerous competitions such as Talent Hunt, Ashville Piano Forum, GMTA, and SCMTA. Zhang also enjoys playing chess, badminton, and solving Rubik's cubes.
Zhang currently attends Riverside High School in Greer, South Carolina and studies piano with Lisa Kiser.[5]
