Zurawski v Texas is a 2024 documentary directed by Abbie Perrault and Maisie Crow about Amanda Zurawski's lawsuit against the State of Texas over the strict anti-abortion laws the state adopted following the overturn of Roe v. Wade. The lawsuit came about when Zurawski developed complications from her pregnancy and almost died from sepsis because medical personnel weren't allowed to operate without being criminally prosecuted. The film was executive produced by Jennifer Lawrence and Justine Ciarrocchi through Excellent Cadaver, as well as Chelsea Clinton and Hillary Clinton through HiddenLight Productions.
It premiered at the 51st Telluride Film Festival to critical acclaim and, while not having a distributor, the documentary is scheduled to release in select theaters on October 25, 2024, just before the 2024 United States presidential election.
Release
Zurawski v Texas premiered at the 51st Telluride Film Festival in August 2024.[1] The film will be released in theaters on October 25, 2024, in Los Angeles, New York City, and cities across Texas, thus being eligible for consideration for the Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature.[2] Additional cities that will be screening the film will include those with an abortion referendum on the ballot during the 2024 United States presidential election, with the aim being for as many people to watch the film before they voted in November. Director Maisie Crow said: "We felt it was critical to not only theatrically release the film in traditional markets like New York and Los Angeles, but make it available during that window in locations across Texas to ensure Texans understand what these abortion bans mean in practice."[2]
