Łukasz Sosnowski (born February 23, 1981), also known as Luke Snow, is a Polish-born filmmaker, screenwriter, storyboard artist, film director and cameraman based in London, UK.[1]

Biography[edit]

Sosnowski was born in 1981, in Warsaw, Poland. He attended London College of Contemporary Arts where he received his honours degree in Creative Media Production. He also attended London Metropolitan University where he received his bachelor's degree in Film and Broadcast. After he finished his Matura in Warsaw, he worked freelance as a Video Jockey, VJ Snow. In 2000, he attended Warszawska Szkola Reklamy (WSR) in Warsaw alongside Polish video editor Adam Zięcina. During this time he first showed an interest in photography experimenting by filming his and everyday life and also working part-time as a cameraman for special events. He left WSR before graduating and moved to Łódź in Poland in 2005 to pursue his career goals in filmmaking, where he attended a variety of photography and filmmaking courses, events and film festivals as Camerimage, where he met known representatives of Polish and International Cinema.[2]

Sosnowski has also worked with prominent Polish camera operator and cinematographer such as Łukasz Łagoda, Przemek Wójcik, Robert Kułak, Mirosław Araszewski, Stanisław Szymański, Tomasz Edelman, Jerzy Matula and Małgorzata Gryniewicz.

Known under a nickname 'Sosna' he voluntarily participated in short film productions of Polish professional and avant-garde filmmakers both in Warsaw and Łódź. His works mainly focused on panoramic widescreen in film techniques by researching the history of movie lenses, aspect ratio and film formats like Cinerama, CinemaScope, VistaVision, as well as 360° immersive, spherical video. He was also interested in testing, more achievable widescreen, old anamorphic lenses as Sankor and Kowa.

Sosnowski made his first short experimental film in 2004 Squat Fabryka in Warsaw, Poland using a handheld miniDV camcorder. In 2009, he made his second film Awaken reflecting about: time, the beginning of civilisation, power, war and life. The first scene of the experimental film shows a digital TV screen with spinning 3D letters WORLD that quickly changes into WORD. It's a reference to the biggest question what was first? World or a Word? The main character who is a humanoid from the future was played by Sosnowski himself.

Sosnowski released his first documentary film, Jesień Życia, in 2006 which was about a retired Polish filmmaker and musician Romuald Wojciech Szpotakowski, a famous production designer of films and television series after WWII, known from a war movies like Jarzębina Czerwona (1969) and very famous Polish black and white TV series about the adventures of a Polish secret agent, Hans Kloss, Stawka większa niż życie. Jesień Życia was produced by Stanisław Szymański.

In 2008, Sosnowski moved to Plymouth in United Kingdom where he produced a short documentary film about the local people, artists and places in Plymouth like The Barbican, Plymouth Synagogue and Devonport Guildhall. The film was produced with the cooperation of local artists such as Film Director Yvonne Turner and Photographer Matthew Pontin.

In 2010, Sosnowski moved to Greater London permanently, where he started a self-employed business by providing services as family and portraits photography, quickly growing to provide cameraman and filming, video production and editing services for short films, documentaries, music videos, multicultural events and seminars. Between 2010 and 2013, he worked as a subcontractor with FujiFilm. Having started out professionally as a filmmaker and video editor, he created his own business after finishing one year business course, Enterprise Programme with Prince's Trust in 2012 and became a Creative Director at Luke Snow Media & Entertainment.[3]

In 2012, Sosnowski undertook voluntary production work in the BBC's Factual and Science Production Department on the Stacey Dooley documentary project. At the same time he worked on a series of Michael Mosley's BBC Science documentary projects. Sosnowski has also gained experience and skills as an apprentice editor for BBC's science documentary Horizon.[4]

In the end of 2015, Sosnowski worked as a runner and making off photographer with the 1st episode of Love Music, that took place in Pinewood Studios, England. It's a world’s very first interactive web-based music show. He has also worked with Amaan Reza, a Bangladeshi actor, known from film Shongram, and Raggo Zulu Rebel in a British Bangladeshi drama, Operadhi (2015) which was directed by G.M Furuk. In 2016, Sosnowski, with cooperation of FilmAsia LTD produced, wrote and directed an episode of Private Detectives, an investigation drama. Sosnowski has made numerous short films, music videos and narratives including Two To Eight (2014), Two Paths (2015) and The Weapons of The Ancient Gods (2015). He has also worked as an editor and cameraman for music videos such as Dreaming - Breakystar mc feat. Essha (2014) and Courage Pay - St. Koff (2014). His next short film Out of The Bottle is slated to be released in 2017.[5]

Sosnowski has also participated in numerous film festivals and events including Raindance Film Festival, BFI London Film Festival, BFI Southbank, BSC Expo, Sci-Fi-London and BAFTA.
