ʻAbd al-Raḥmān Mannāʻī(Arabic:عبد الرحمن المناعي) is a playwright and stage director who was born in Qatar in 1948. He obtained a technical high school diploma in Electricity in 1969, in addition to some vocational courses and English Language courses. He is considered to be one of the pioneers of the theatrical movement in Qatar for his first play Umm Zain (Zain’s Mother)[1] [2]- which he wrote in 1975 and which was directed by the Jordanian director: Hani Ṣnober - is a marker in Qatar’s theatrical and artistic history.[3][4]

  • Cooperation Council Medal at the Muscat Summit 1989.
  • Honor of Theatrical Leadership in The Second Gulf Festival, Qatar 1990.
  • Best Theatrical Work Award (for his play: Ghanawi Al-Shamali or The Northerner’s Songs) in The Sixth Gulf Festival, Muscat 2000.
  • The Judging Panel’s Award for the play (Maqamat Bin Baḥr or Maqams of Al-Jaḥiz) in the third round of Carthage Festival Tunisia 1978.
  • Best Director Award (for his play Moghram Hal Shoq or This Longing is Smitten) in The Seventh Gulf Festival, Doha 2002.
  • State Merit Award in Theater Art 2006.
