0Chain

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

0Chain (pronounced zero chain) is a decentralized blockchain platform developed to provide data storage solutions[1]. With an emphasis on data privacy and security, 0Chain aims to decrease data storage costs, improve efficiency, decrease GDPR/CCPA liability, and return data ownership to the user. ZCN is the native token for 0Chain Blockchain Platform.

0Chain was initially proposed in December 2017[2] by current CEO Saswata Basu. Development was crowdfunded in February 2018[3] and the network is pending a launch in Q1 2021. Upon the launch of the network, 0Chain aims to offer decentralized storage to enterprises to provide secure, scalable storage solutions that are flexible for developers. History[edit]

0Chain was started by Saswata Basu and Tom Austin in 2017. Saswata had previously worked previously worked for the likes of Intel, Harris, Nortel, Aviat and Energous where he worked with privacy, data security, distributed systems, blockchain, IoT, cloud and wireless systems. Tom, a current professor at San Jose State, who specializes in program language, malware analysis, and cryptocurrencies.

The founders initially proposed to provide a zero-cost superfast, decentralized cloud for off-chain smart contracts and data for IoT, Web, and Enterprise applications. Throughout development thus far, 0Chain has successfully launched alpha- and beta networks that enable fast transactions, locking of tokens for interest, personal and enterprise-grade data storage solutions for applications.

0Chain has announced it's intent to launch their Main Network in Q1 2021. MainNet Fuji will mark the official launch of the 0Chain platform, allowing users to utilize the platform and dApps as well as enabling developers to launch applications.

Characteristics[edit]

As with other cryptocurrencies, the validity of each ZCN is provided by a blockchain, which is a continuously growing list of records called blocks, which are linked and secured using cryptographic hash functions. By design, the blockchain is inherently resistant to modification of the data. It is an open, distributed ledger that records transactions between two parties efficiently and in a verifiable and permanent way.

ZCN[edit]

ZCN is the native token for 0Chain's Blockchain Platform. This token is required for all transactions on the blockchain such as writing and reading data transactions.

Supply[edit]

0Chain's native token (ZCN) has a hard cap of 400m tokens. As of the end of December 2020, the current circulating supply is approximately 130m[4]. In a recently updated paper, 0Chain provided insight into token economics, release schedule and distribution.

Governance[edit]

0Chain's governance protocol[5] has not yet been implemented into their network. The team has announced that they plan on implementing the protocol following the successful launch of their Main Network. The revolutionary ping-pong protocol enables ZCN holders to participate in decision making via indefinite rounds of Yes/No voting for specific proposals.

Platform & Products[edit]

0Box[edit]

0Box (pronounced zero-box) is a mobile-based application for Android and iOS users to store personal data such as photographs, videos, and files.

0Wallet[edit]

0Wallet (pronounced zero-wallet) is an application for ZCN holders to safely store, send, lock and stake tokens.

0Stor[edit]

0Stor (pronounced zero-store) offers configurable, secure dStorage with private sharing. Developers have the ability to customize their data storage enabling them to leverage a data solution tailored to their individual needs.
