The 1st Arkansas Consolidated Infantry (1865) was a Confederate Army infantry regiment during the American Civil War. This unit was created in April 1865 from the remnants of Arkansas regiments assigned in the Confederate Army of Tennessee. Another 1st Arkansas Consolidated Regiment had been formed the previous year in the Department of the Trans-Mississippi from the remnants of several Arkansas units which had been captured the at the Siege of Vicksburg and Port Hudson during the summer of 1863.

Organization[edit]

The remnants of ten depleted Arkansas regiments, along with one mostly-Arkansas regiment, in the Army of Tennessee were consolidated into a single regiment at Smithfield, North Carolina, on April 9, 1865.[1] The new regiment was commanded by Col. Edward Alexander Howell, formerly of the 5th Arkansas Infantry Regiment.[2] The following list indicates how the former regiments were consolidated into the new unit.[3]

These regiments were so depleted that many of them had been in various field consolidations prior to this reorganization, but this represented the official end of their existence.[3]

Surrender[edit]

This regiment surrendered with the Army of Tennessee at Greensboro, North Carolina, April 26, 1865, and the men were paroled at Jamestown, North Carolina, on May 1, 1865.[citation needed]
