The 2011 Hindukush earthquake occurred in the Hindukush Mountains in Badakhshan, Afghanistan, on 7 November at 16:29 local time in Afghanistan (16:59 PST and 17:29 IST). The shock had a moment magnitude of 5.5,[1] and was widely felt in eastern Afghanistan, Southern Tajikistan, Northern Pakistan and parts of North India.

Earthquake[edit]

The magnitude 5.5 (Mw) earthquake occurred inland at 16:29 local time on 7 November 2011 in Hindu Kush region of Afghanistan. The earthquake was epicentered in the southern end of Badakhshan Province, 175 miles (280 kilometers) northeast of the Afghan capital of Kabul, where the quake was felt for about 15 seconds. The earthquake was felt strongly in Northern Pakistan as well as in the Kashmir Valley in India. Mild tremors were also felt in Indian states of Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi.[2]

No casualty or any damage was recorded immediate to the earthquake. However, panic was reported in Srinagar as people were celebrating Eid.[3]
