The ruling Indian National Congress was voted as the Second party in elections. Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) did immensely well by jumping from 0 to 12 seats. Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) Party could get a clear majority, Indian National Congress had fallen to 7 seats.

Result[edit]

The Bharatiya Jata Party (BJP) made a clean sweep in the Jorhat Municipal Board (JMB) polls by winning 12 out of the total 19 seats, thus defeating arch rival Congress, which maged to capture only seven seats.

BJP won from wards no 1, 3, 4, 6, 7, 11, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17 and 18, represented by Aru Dutta, Junu Bora, Tumpa Mandal, Ankur Gupta, Kamala Kundu, Jayanta Borkotoky, Pratibha Saikia, Rita Moni Kalita, Paban Bordoloi, Abani Saikia, Anup Ghosh Dastidaar and Bablee Dhar who defeated Congress candidates Romesh Dutta, Lily Dutta, Sandhya Rani Das Thakur, Ashok Kr Malpani, Seema Chakraborty, Debojit Kr Bordoloi, Anja Goswami, Abha Sarmah, Pabitra Kr Bordoloi, Diganta Dutta, Gitanjan Ganguly and Seela Roy of the same ward.

The Congress won from wards no 2, 5, 8, 9, 10, 12 and 19 represented by Arifa Zaman, Fateema Begum, Prasanta Kr Bora, Jitendra th Bora (Hriday), Jayanta Borua, Anju Shrutikar and Ritupar Khargaria Das who defeated BJP’s Pranjit Kumar Das, Aloy Ghosh, Praveer Saikia, Jaya Das, Bidyut Kr Phukan, Mrilini Barua and Suravi Das of the same ward. However, ward no 8 was a tie between former JMB chairman Prasanta Kr Bora and BJP’s Praveer Saikia, both of whom bagged 597 votes each after the fil round of counting and it was through a toss that Prasanta Bora emerged as the winner.

In the year of 2015 Jorhat municipality election, Bharatiya Janata party got the majority and form the board under the chairperson sjt Aruna Dutta for the first time. Out of 19 Ward BJP Won 12 wards and formed the first BJP lead Jorhat municipality Board .
