The 2018 season will be the new Cosmos' sixth season competing. With the NASL suspending their 2018 season, the Cosmos will be fielding only their "B" team. The team will be competing in the NPSL and splitting their home games between three sites in the New York City metro area.

On March 10, 2018; Danny Szetela was named the next captain of the New York Cosmos.

On March 30, 2018; It was announced that the appeal signed by the Jacksonville Armada, Miami FC, and the Cosmos to participate in the 2018 edition of the US Open Cup was approved.[1] The club will play fellow NPSL side, the Brooklyn Italians in a one off play-in round. Both Miami FC and Jacksonville will play PDL sides, FC Miami City and The Villages SC respectively.

U.S. Open Cup[edit]

On March 30th; it had been announced that an appeal made by the three remaining U.S. based NASL clubs to participate in the U.S. Open Cup was accepted. A special Play-In Round was created and six teams will participate. The Brooklyn Italians (who had qualified for the First Round) was brought back a round to host the Cosmos.
