The 2019 Shaybah attack was a suicide drone attack by the Houthis against the Saudi Arabian oil and gas fields in the remote town of Shaybah. The attack caused limited fires at the oil field, which were quickly put out according to Saudi officials. According to Saudi officials no one was injured in the attack and there was no disruption at the field.[1][2] According to Houthis 10 suicide unmanned aerial vehicles took place in the attack on the oil field’s wells and its refinery. Saudi officials acknoleged “slight damage” in the gas station.[3]

Aftermath[edit]

The attack came during heightened tensions between the UAE and Saudi Arabia due to ongoing clashes at the time in Yemen between forces backed by each side and other disputes. According to some analysts the proximity of the attack to the UAE was meant to send a message to the UAE, who were considering engaging in peace talks with the Houthis, that they were also in range of Houthi missiles and drones.[4]
