This is a timeline of the War in Donbass since 1 July 2019. The timeline follows the ongoing conflict between Ukraine and anti-government pro-Russian separatists supported by Russian troops[1] in the Donbass region in eastern Ukraine.

1 July[edit]

According to the information provided by the spokesman of the Ukrainian operational headquarters in the morning, pro-Russian troops had opened fire on 23 occasions on Ukrainian positions the previous day[2][3] (including on 19 occasions in Donetsk region and on 4 occasions in Luhansk region;[2][4] the fire was returned on several occasions.[4] By noon of 1 July seven ceasefire violations were registered, one Ukrainian serviceman was wounded.[4] The spokesman of the Ministry of Defence reported at noon no casualties in the Donbass region on the last day of June.[4] Pro-Russian sources at Donetsk city recorded 27 Ukrainian violations of the ceasefire 16 locations using small arms, automatic grenade launchers, 73 mm anti-tank recoilless rifles, 82 mm mortars, 120 mm mortars, anti-aircraft guns, armoured personnel carriers, armoured fighting vehicles and 122 mm self-propelled artillery.[5] In another press release, the same authorities reported 170 Ukrainian violations of the truce for the last week. The Ukrainian military fired 215 rounds from 122 mm self-propelled artillery, seven rounds from tanks, one anti-tank guided missile, 662 shells from 120 mm mortars and 523 from 82 mm mortars. The shelling damaged 42 civilian residences and seven facilities. Four civilians were wounded on the same period.[6] Six pro-Russian soldiers were killed in action.[7] A single ceasefire violation was recorded by local officials within the boundaries of the self-proclaimed Luhansk People's Republic, where Ukrainian forces from Krymske opened fire on pro-Russian positions at Pryshyb with small arms and anti-tank rocket launchers.[8]

The press-centre of the Joint Forces Operation (JFO) reported in the evening that three more ceasefire violations by pro-Russian military had been registered by 6:00 pm — the total number of reported Ukrainian casualties had risen to two Ukrainian servicemen killed and another two wounded; a sanitary Hummer of Ukrainian forces was hit by an ATGM during medevac mission at Vodiane at around 10:50 am, killing one and wounding lethally another Ukrainian serviceman.[9][10][11] By the end of the day total 25 ceasefire violations were registered, with no further casualties on the Ukrainian side. In the eastern area of operations, pro-Russian armoured fighting vehicles launched an attack on Ukrainian positions at Novoselivka supported by 82 mm and 120 mm mortar fire. An anti-tank guided missile was fired at Vodiane, striking a vehicle and killing two servicemen, as noted above. The stronghold was also engaged by pro-Russian armoured fighting vehicles supported by grenade launchers, snipers and small arms. The separatists also shelled Marinka with 82 mm and 120 mm mortars. Avdiivka and Lebedinske received fire from 120 mm mortars, while Pisky became the target of anti-tank rocket launchers. Heavy machine gun fire was reported at Opytne. In the northern front, Novoluhanske and Luhanske were hit by the combined fire of infantry weapons, automatic grenade launchers, rocket launchers, 82 mm mortars and 120 mm mortars. Novooleksandrivka received fire from 120 mm mortars, while Zaitseve was shelled with automatic grenade launchers and 82 mm mortars. Pro-Russian armoured fighting vehicles engaged Ukrainian positions at Krymske, which were also fired at from small arms, heavy machine guns and grenade launchers. Novotoshkivke and Novhorodske were hit by small arms fire, heavy machine gun fire and anti-tank rockets.[12][13] A series of Ukrainian violations of the ceasefire was reported by separatist authorities at Donetsk city by evening. Mineralne, Trudivske, Yasynuvata, Volvo Center and Zhabicheve, in the surroundings of Donetsk city, Gagarin mining complex and Shyroka Balka, in the area of Horlivka, and, in the region of Mariupol, Sakhanka, Uzhivka, Pikuzy and Novoshyrokivske, came under hostile fire. In the main incidents, Volvo Center and Gagarin were hit by the combined shelling of 73 mm 82 mm mortars and 120 mm mortars. Zhabicheve and Shyroka Balka came under 120 mm mortar fire; 82 mm mortar volleys landed meanwhile in Mineralne, Sakhanka, Pikuzy and Novoshyrokivske. BMP-2 armoured vehicles from Avdiivka and Kamianka engaged pro-Russian positions at Mineralne and Yasynuvata. Uzhivka and Novoshyrokivske received fire from 73 mm anti-tank recoilless rifles.[14]

The spokesman of the Ukrainian operational headquarters reported in the morning, that pro-Russian troops had opened fire on 25 occasions on Ukrainian positions the previous day[12][13] (including on 15 occasions in Donetsk and on 10 occasions in Luhansk region[12][15]); the fire was returned on several occasions.[15] By noon of 2 July six ceasefire violations were registered; one Ukrainian soldier was injured.[15] The spokesman of the Ministry of Defence confirmed at noon that two Ukrainian servicemen were killed and another two were wounded in the Donbass region on the first day of July.[15] Pro-Russian authorities at Donetsk city recorded 35 Ukrainian violations of the ceasefire in 16 locations using small arms, heavy machine guns, automatic grenade launchers, 73 mm anti-tank recoilless rifles, 82 mm mortars, 120 mm mortars, armoured personnel carriers, armoured fighting vehicles, 122 mm and 152 mm self-propelled artillery.[16] According to local officials, the Ukrainian military broke the ceasefire five times within the borders of the self-styled Luhansk People's Republic. Ukrainian forces used small arms, heavy machine guns, automatic grenade launchers, anti-tank rocket launchers, 82 mm and 120 mm mortars to attack pro-Russian positions at Lohvynove, Molodezhne, Kalynivka and Pryshyb.[17]

According to the information provided by the press-centre of the JFO in the evening, as of 6:00 pm no further ceasefire violations by pro-Russian military were registered.[18] By the end of the day total 13 ceasefire violations were registered, no further casualties were reported by the Ukrainian side. In the eastern front, Marinka was shelled with automatic grenade launchers and 82 mm mortars, supported by heavy machine gun fire. Lebedinske received fire from small arms and grenade launchers, while Ukrainian positions at Novotroitske were hit by heavy machine gun fire and anti-tank rockets. Shyrokyne was fired at from anti-tank rocket launchers. Heavy machine gun fire was reported at Krasnohorivka. In the northern front, Novoluhanske came under fire from heavy machine guns, 73 mm anti-tank recoilless rifles and 82 mm mortars. Bolotene was also shelled with 82 mm mortars.[19][20][21] A series of Ukrainian violations of the ceasefire were recorded by pro-Russian authorities at Donetsk city. Pro-Russian positions at Oleksandrivka, Dokuchaievsk, Vasilyevka, Yasynuvata, Kruta Balka, Spartak, Volvo Center and Donetsk airport, around Donetsk city, Zaitseve, in the area of Horlivka, and, in the region of Mariupol, Sakhanka, Uzhivka, Sosnovske, Pikuzy, Kachkarske, Novoshyrokivske and Patrioticheske, came under hostile fire. In the main incidents, Ukrainian 122 mm and 152 mm self-propelled artillery shelled Uzhivka, Pikuzy, Sosnovske, Kachkarske and Patrioticheske. Oleksandrivka, Dokuchaievsk, Sakhanka, Pikuzy, Zaitseve, Volvo Center and Donetsk airport were hit by 120 mm mortar volleys. Oleksandrivka, Novoshyrokivske, Vasilyevka and Sakhanka became the target of 82 mm mortars. BMP-2 armoured vehicles from northern Zaitseve, Kamianka, Avdiivka and Shyrokyne engaged pro-Russian redoubts at southern Zaitseve, Yasynuvata, Kruta Balka and Sakhanka. Spartak became the target of ZU-23-2 anti-aircraft guns. Sakhanka, Spartak, Volvo Center and Donetsk airport received fire from 73 mm anti-tank recoilless rifles. Two residential building were set on fire at Zaitseve and another at Yasynuvata, were a gas pipeline was also hit.

According to the information provided by the spokesman of the Ukrainian operational headquarters in the morning, pro-Russian troops had opened fire on 13 occasions on Ukrainian positions the previous day (including on 7 occasions in Donetsk region and on 6 occasions in Luhansk region[19][20][21]); the fire was returned on several occasions.[22] By noon of 3 July five ceasefire violations were registered, with no casualties on the Ukrainian side.[22] The spokesman of the Ministry of Defence confirmed at noon that one Ukrainian serviceman was injured in the Donbass region on 2 July.[22] Pro-Russian authorities at Donetsk city recorded 31 Ukrainian violations of the ceasefire in 15 locations using small arms, heavy machine guns, automatic grenade launchers, 73 mm anti-tank recoilless rifles, 82 mm mortars, 120 mm mortars, armoured personnel carriers, armoured fighting vehicles, 122 mm and 152 mm self-propelled artillery.[23] No ceasefire violations were reported by local sources within the borders of the self-proclaimed Luhansk People's Republic.[24]

In the eastern front, Avdiivka was hit by 120 mm mortar volleys, while Opytne, Lebedinske and Marinka became the target of infantry weapons. Novohryhorivka received fire from 73 mm anti-tank recoilless rifles. Heavy machine gun fire was reported at Krasnohorivka. In the northern sector of operations, Ukrainian positions at Zaitseve were targeted by infantry weapons, rocket launchers, 82 mm mortars, 120 mm mortars and 122 mm self-propelled artillery. Pro-Russian armoured fighting vehicles launched an attacked on Novoluhanske supported by the combined fire of small arms, grenade launchers, 82 mm mortars and ZU-23-2 anti-aircraft guns. Novhorodske received fire from small arms, heavy machine guns, automatic grenade launchers, 82 mm mortars, 120 mm mortars and 122 mm self-propelled artillery. Yuzhne and Popasna became the target of infantry weapons, automatic grenade launchers and 82 mm mortars. Pro-Russian armoured fighting vehicles from Slavyanoserbsk engaged Ukrainian redoubts at Krymske, supported by anti-tank rocket launchers and 73 mm anti-tank recoilless rifles. Travneve received fire from infantry weapons, automatic grenade launchers and anti-tank rocket launchers.[26][27]

The spokesman of the Ukrainian operational headquarters reported in the morning, that pro-Russian troops had opened fire on 29 occasions on Ukrainian positions the previous day (including on 13 occasions in Donetsk and on 16 occasions in Luhansk region[26][27]), spending 15 units of 122 mm calibre artillery and 93 units of 120/82 mm calibre mortars' ammunition; the fire was returned on several occasions.[28] By noon of 4 July nine ceasefire violations were registered; one Ukrainian soldier was injured.[28] The spokesman of the Ministry of Defence confirmed at noon that five Ukrainian servicemen were wounded in the Donbass region on 3 July.[28] Pro-Russian officials at Donetsk city recorded 25 Ukrainian violations of the ceasefire in 17 locations using small arms, heavy machine guns, snipers, automatic grenade launchers, 73 mm anti-tank recoilless rifles, 82 mm mortars, 120 mm mortars, armoured personnel carriers, armoured fighting vehicles, 122 mm and 152 mm self-propelled artillery.[29] Pro-Russian authorities from the self-proclaimed Luhansk people's Republic reported that Ukrainian forces broke the ceasefire three times within the boundaries of the republic. The Ukrainian military used small arms, heavy machine guns, anti-tank rocket launchers, 73 mm anti-tank recoilless rifles and 82 mm mortars to attack Ukrainian positions at Pervomaisk, Holubovske and Pryshyb.[30]

According to the information provided by the press-centre of the JFO in the evening, from 00:01 am to 6:00 pm pro-Russian military had opened fire on positions of Ukrainian troops on 16 occasions — another Ukrainian soldier was injured and one serviceman was wounded.[31] By the end of the day total 30 ceasefire violations were registered, the total number of Ukrainian casualties had amounted to one serviceman killed, three wounded, and three injured. In the eastern front, 82 mm mortar volleys landed in Pisky and Opytne. Pro-Russian armoured fighting vehicles attacked Vodiane, and Berezove received ZU-23-2 anti-aircraft cannon fire. Ukrainian troops at Opytne, Berezove, Lebedinske, Vodiane, Avdiivka, Marinka, Krasnohorivka and Shyrokyne became the target of infantry weapons and grenade launchers. In the northern sector of operations, 122 mm self-propelled guns opened fire on Ukrainian redoubts at Novotoshkivke, supported by 120 mm mortars. Krymske was shelled with 82 mm mortars and 122 mm self-propelled artillery, while Novhorodske and Luhanske came under 120 mm mortar fire. Popasna, Novoluhanske and Zolote came under the combined fire of 82 mm and 120 mm mortars. Fire from small arms and rocket launchers was reported at Novotoshkivke and Yuzhne. Ukrainian troops at Vilnyi.[32][33] A number of ceasefire violations was reported by pro-Russian sources at Donetsk city by evening. Ukrainian forces attacked pro-Russian positions at Kruta Balka, Spartak, Dokuchaievsk, Novoselivka, Mineralne, Yasne, Zhabicheve and Volvo Center, in the environs of Donetsk city, Zaitseve and Dolomitne, in the area of Horlivka, and, in the region of Mariupol, Sakhanka and Novoshyrokivske. In the main incidents, four anti-tank guided missiles were launched from Opytne at the area of Donetsk airport. Zaitseve, Dolomitne and Dokuchaievsk were hit by 120 mm mortar volleys, while 82 mm mortars were used to shell Yasne, Dolomitne, Spartak and Vasilyevka. BMP-2 armoured vehicles from Avdiivka launched a substantial attack on Mineralne. BMP-2 armoured vehicles from Berezove, Kamianka and Avdiivka also engaged pro-Russian redoubts at Yasne, Yasynuvata, Spartak and Mineralne. The water pumping station at Vasilyevka was attacked by hostile forces for the second consecutive day. A civilian residence was damaged at Yasne.[34]

5 July[edit]

According to the information provided by the spokesman of the Ukrainian operational headquarters in the morning, pro-Russian troops had opened fire on 30 occasions on Ukrainian positions the previous day (including on 16 occasions in Donetsk region and on 14 occasions in Luhansk region[32]); the fire was returned on several occasions.[33][35] By noon of 5 July ten ceasefire violations were registered, one Ukrainian soldier was wounded as a result.[35] The spokesman of the Ministry of Defence reported at noon that on Ukrainian serviceman (born in 1977) was killed, three soldiers were wounded, and another three were injured in the Donbass region on 4 July.[35] Pro-Russian authorities at Donetsk city recorded 31 Ukrainian violations of the ceasefire 12 locations using small arms, heavy machine guns, automatic grenade launchers, 73 mm anti-tank recoilless rifles, 82 mm mortars, 120 mm mortars, anti-tank guided missiles, armoured personnel carriers and armoured fighting vehicles.[36] The same sources said that the Ukrainian military broke the ceasefire 196 times over the past week. Nine settlements were targeted and 23 civilian residences damaged by hostile fire. Five pro-Russian soldiers were killed and five wounded in action on the same period.

The press-centre of the JFO reported in the evening that by 6:00 pm pro-Russian military had opened fire on positions of Ukrainian troops on 14 occasions — four Ukrainian soldiers were injured.[37] By the end of the day total 28 ceasefire violations were registered, the number of Ukrainian casualties had amounted to two Ukrainian servicemen wounded and four injured. In the eastern area of operations, the separatists shelled Shyrokyne with anti-tank rocket launchers and 120 mm mortars. Bohdanivka and Novotroitske received fire from infantry weapons and 73 mm anti-tank recoilless rifles, while Vodiane became the target of small arms, snipers and anti-tank rocket launchers. Anti-tank rocket fire was reported at Novoselivka, Novohnativka and Pavlopil. Avdiivka was fired at from small arms and anti-tank rocket launchers. Ukrainian troops at Nikolaevka, Marinka and Krasnohorivka were harassed with machine gun fire. In the northern front, Novoluhanske and Zolote were hit by the combined fire of 82 mm mortars and 120 mm mortars. Travneve was shelled with automatic grenade launchers and 82 mm mortars, while Svitlodarsk received fire from infantry weapons and 82 mm mortars. Pro-Russian armoured fighting vehicles engaged Ukrainian positions at Krymske, which were also fired at from small arms, heavy machine guns, automatic grenade launchers, 73 mm anti-tank recoilless rifles and 82 mm mortars. Novotoshkivke was struck by heavy machine gun fire, 73 mm anti-tank rounds and anti-tank guided missiles.[38][39] A number of ceasefire violations was reported by pro-Russian sources at Donetsk city by evening. Ukrainian forces attacked pro-Russian positions at Spartak, Zabicheve, Dokuchaievsk, Vasilyevka, Yasne, Krasnyi Partizan and Trudivske in the environs of Donetsk city, Zaitseve and Dolomitne, in the area of Horlivka, and, in the region of Mariupol, Pikuzy and Zaichenko. In the main incidents, Pikuzy was hit by 120 mm mortar volleys. Zaitseve and Dolomitne were meanwhile shelled with 82 mm and 120 mm mortars. BMP-1 armoured vehicles from Verkhnyotoretske engaged pro-Russian redoubts at Krasnyi Partizan. BMP-2 armoured vehicles from Avdiivka opened fire on pro-Russian positions at Spartak.[40] Eleven civilian residences were damaged at Pikuzy, Dokuchaievsk and Yasne.[41]

The spokesman of the Ukrainian operational headquarters reported in the morning, that pro-Russian troops had opened fire on 28 occasions on Ukrainian positions the previous day (including on 15 occasions in Donetsk and on 13 occasions in Luhansk region[38]); the fire was returned on several occasions.[39][42] By noon of 6 July three ceasefire violations were registered; with no casualties on the Ukrainian side.[42] The spokesman of the Ministry of Defence confirmed at noon that two Ukrainian servicemen were wounded and another four were injured in the Donbass region on 5 July.[42] Pro-Russian authorities at Donetsk city recorded 23 Ukrainian violations of the ceasefire in 13 locations using small arms, heavy machine guns, automatic grenade launchers, 73 mm anti-tank recoilless rifles, 82 mm mortars, 120 mm mortars, armoured personnel carriers and armoured fighting vehicles.[41] Officials from the self-proclaimed Luhansk People's Republic recorded seven attacks by the Ukrainian military inside the republic's borders. Ukrainian forces used automatic grenade launchers, 82 mm mortars, 120 mm mortars and BMP-1 armoured vehicles to engage pro-Russian positions at Smile, Pervomaisk, Zholobok, Zolote and Lohvynove.[43]

In the eastern front, Marinka received 82 mm mortar fire, supported by heavy machine gun fire. Pro-Russian armoured fighting vehicles engaged Ukrainian positions in the area of Vodiane. Small arms, heavy machine gun fire and anti-tank rocket fire was reported at Shyrokyne, Lebedinske, Pavlopil, Bohdanivka, Hnutove, Starohnativka, Marinka, Pishchevyk and Krasnohorivka. In the northern front, Yuzhne was hit by 122 mm artillery barrages. Ukrainian redoubts in the area were also attacked by pro-Russian armoured fighting vehicles from Zheleznaya Balka, supported by 120 mm mortars. Novotoshkivke came under the combined fire of 82 mm and 120 mm mortars. Svitlodarsk became the target of 120 mm mortars, while Novoluhanske was shelled with 82 mm mortars. Zaitseve, Novhorodske and Shumy received fire from infantry weapons and grenade launchers.[45][46] Separatist authorities at Donetsk city recorded a series of Ukrainian violations of the truce by the end of the day. Yasynuvata, Trudivske, Volvo Center and Donetsk airport, in the environs of Donetsk city, Zaitseve and Gagarin mining complex, in the area of Horlivka, and, in the region of Mariupol, Sakhanka and Pikuzy, came under hostile fire. In the main incidents, pro-Russian forces launched two anti-tank missiles at Yasynuvata from Avdiivka and Kamianka. Pikuzy and Gagarin received 120 mm mortar fire from Ukrainian positions; 82 mm mortar volleys also struck Trudivske and Pikuzy. BMP-1 armoured vehicles from Dzerzhinsky and Shyrokyne launched an attack on Ukrainian positions at Gagarin and Sakhanka.[47][48]

According to the information provided by the spokesman of the Ukrainian operational headquarters in the morning, pro-Russian troops had opened fire on 26 occasions on Ukrainian positions the previous day (including on 16 occasions in Donetsk region and on 10 occasions in Luhansk region[45]); the fire was returned on several occasions.[46][49] By noon of 7 July seven ceasefire violations were registered — one Ukrainian soldier was wounded.[49] The spokesman of the Ministry of Defence confirmed at noon that one Ukrainian serviceman was wounded and another four were injured in the Donbass region on 6 July.[49] Pro-Russian authorities at Donetsk city recorded 18 Ukrainian violations of the ceasefire in ten locations using small arms, heavy machine guns, automatic grenade launchers, 73 mm anti-tank recoilless rifles, 82 mm mortars, 120 mm mortars, anti-tank guided missiles, armoured personnel carriers, armoured fighting vehicles and 122 mm self-propelled artillery.[50] Officials from the self-proclaimed Luhansk People's Republic recorded seven attacks by the Ukrainian military inside the republic's borders. Ukrainian forces used small arms, heavy machine guns, automatic grenade launchers, anti-tank rocket launchers, 73 mm anti-tank recoilless rifles, 82 mm mortars, 120 mm mortars and BMP-1 armoured vehicles to engage pro-Russian positions at Holubovske, Donetskyi, Lozove and Lohvynove.[51]

The press-centre of the JFO reported in the evening that by 6:00 pm pro-Russian military had opened fire on positions of Ukrainian troops on 5 more occasions, wounding another Ukrainian soldier.[52] By the end of the day total 16 ceasefire violations were registered, the number of Ukrainian casualties had amounted to one Ukrainian serviceman killed, two wounded, and one injured. In the eastern front, Pro-Russian tanks from Azov (Uzhivka) and armoured fighting vehicles from Pikuzy launched coordinates attacks on Ukrainian positions at Vodiane, supported by small arms and 73 mm anti-tank recoilless rifles. Ukrainian troops at Shyrokyne became the target of infantry weapons and 73 mm anti-tank recoilless rifles. Pishchevyk was shelled with automatic grenade launchers and anti-tank rocket launchers. Small arms and heavy machine gun fire was reported at Krasnohorivka. In the northern sector of operations, Mayorsk was hit by anti-tank guided missiles. Yuzhne received intense fire from 82 mm and 120 mm mortars. Popasna and Zolote became the target of 120 mm mortars, while 82 mm mortar rounds landed in Novoluhanske.[53][54] Pro-Russian sources told the press that Ukrainian forces had broken the ceasefire on several occasions by evening. Gagarin mining complex, Holmivsky and Dolomitne, in the area of Horlivka, and, in the region of Mariupol, Sakhanka, Uzhivka, Pikuzy and Novoshyrokivske, came under hostile fire. In the main incidents, Ukrainian tanks from Vodiane launched an attack on pro-Russian redoubts at Uzhivka, while BMP-1 armoured vehicles from Pavlopil engaged pro-Russian positions at Novoshyrokivske. BMP-2 armoured vehicles from Yuzhne opened fire on pro-Russian forces defending Holmivsky. Gagarin received the combined fire of 82 mm and 120 mm mortars. Dolomitne, Uzhivka and Pikuzy came under 82 mm mortar fire. Uzhivka was shelled by 122 mm self-propelled guns from Talakivka.[55][56]

The disengagement area at Stanytsia Luhanska was visited by Donald Tusk and Volodymyr Zelenskyi.[57]

Mayorsk was fired at from small arms and rocket launchers.[62][63][64] A series of ceasefire violations was reported by pro-Russian sources at Donetsk city by evening. Ukrainian forces attacked pro-Russian positions at Oleksandrivka, Yasynuvata, Trudivske and Staromykhailivka, in the surroundings of Donetsk city, Dolomitne, Izotove and Gagarin mining complex, in the area of Horlivka, and, in the region of Mariupol, Uzhivka, Pikuzy, Krasnoarmisk and Sakhanka. In the main incidents, Krasnoarmisk was shelled by 122 mm self-propelled artillery, while Uzhivka, Gagarin and Yasynuvata received heavy fire from 120 mm mortars. According to the information provided by the spokesman of the Ukrainian operational headquarters in the morning, pro-Russian troops had opened fire on 17 occasions on Ukrainian positions the previous day (including on 12 occasions in Donetsk region and on 5 occasions in Luhansk region[62][63]); the fire was returned on several occasions.[64][66] By noon of 9 July five ceasefire violations were registered, with no casualties on the Ukrainian side.[66] The spokesman of the Ministry of Defence reported at noon no casualties in the Donbass region on 8 July.[66] Pro-Russian authorities at Donetsk city reported 15 Ukrainian violations of the ceasefire in 11 locations using small arms, heavy machine guns, automatic grenade launchers, 73 mm anti-tank recoilless rifles, 120 mm mortars and 152 mm self-propelled artillery.[67] A pro-Russian soldier was killed in action.[68] Pro-Russian sources from the self-proclaimed Luhansk people's Republic reported that Ukrainian forces broke the ceasefire three times within the boundaries of the republic. The Ukrainian military used automatic grenade launchers, 82 mm mortars and 120 mm mortars to shell Ukrainian positions at Lozove, Kalynivka and Zholobok.[69]

In the main incidents, heavy shelling was reported in the region of Mariupol, where Ukrainian positions at Bezimenne, Sakhanka and Vedelske were shelled by 152 mm self-propelled artillery. Nearby Uzhivka was meanwhile hit by 122 mm artillery barrages. Dolomitne, Ozeryanivka, Oleksandrivka, Trudivske and Uzhivka received 120 mm mortar fire from Ukrainian positions; 82 mm mortar volleys also struck Holmivsky, Dolomitne, Volvo Center, Sakhanka and Pikuzy. BMP-1 armoured vehicles from Shyrokyne launched an attack on Ukrainian positions at Sakhanka.[73] A 25-acre wheat field was set on fire near Vedelske.[74]

The Ukrainian military employed anti-tank rocket launchers, 73 mm anti-tank recoilless rifles and 82 mm mortars to attack Ukrainian positions at Pervomaisk, Sentianivka and Lozove.[74]

Ukrainian troops at Shyrokyne, Pishchevyk, Hnutove, Lebedinske, Novomykhailivka and Berezove were harassed by small arms fire. In the northern sector of operations, Novoluhanske received heavy shelling from anti-tank rocket launchers, 120 mm mortars and 122 mm self-propelled artillery. Nearby Luhanske was shelled with automatic grenade launchers, 73 mm anti-tank recoilless rifles, 82 mm mortars and 120 mm mortars. BMP-1 armoured vehicles from Vodiane launched an attack on Ukrainian positions at Uzhivka. A Ukrainian UR-77 Meterorit armoured vehicle from Novotroitske fired two mine-clearing line charges at pro-Russian entrenchments near Dokuchaievsk.[90] A 70-year-old woman was killed by shelling in Holmivsky. Two civilian facilities and a vegetable oil plant were damaged at Lukove, while a gas pipeline was hit near Gagarin, which was left without gas supply. Zaitseve and Popasna were struck by 82 mm mortar rounds. The separatists also opened fire at Novoluhanske and Zaitseve using heavy machine guns and grenade launchers.[108][109] Pro-Russian sources told the press that Ukrainian forces had broken the ceasefire on several occasions by evening. Spartak, Volvo Center and Staromykhailivka, in the environs of Donetsk city, Verkhnyotoretske and Dolomitne, in the area of Horlivka, and Zaichenko, in the region of Mariupol, came under hostile fire. The area became the target of heavy machine guns, automatic grenade launchers, anti-tank rocket launchers and 82 mm mortars. Pro-Russian forces also attacked Avdiivka and Pavlopil using small arms, automatic grenade launchers, 73 mm anti-tank recoilless rifles and 82 mm mortars. Ukrainian troops at Lebedinske, Shyrokyne and Krasnohorivka were harassed with small arms and heavy machine gun fire. In the northern area of operations, Novooleksandrivka received fire from heavy machine guns, anti-tank rocket launchers, 82 mm mortars and 120 mm mortars. Popasna were shelled with automatic grenade launchers and 82 mm mortars. Ukrainian troops at Luhanske came under heavy machine gun fire. Small arms fire was reported at Krymske.[115][116] Pro-Russian sources from Donetsk city reported several Ukrainian attacks by evening. Oleksandrivka and Signalne, in the environs of Donetsk city, Dolomitne, in the area of Horlivka, and, in the region of Mariupol, Kulikove, Uzhivka and Pikuzy, came under hostile fire. In the main incidents, Kulikove and Uzhivka received the combined fire of 82 mm and 120 mm mortars, while 120 mm mortar barrages also landed in Pikuzy.[117]

16 July[edit]

The spokesman of the Ukrainian operational headquarters reported in the morning, that pro-Russian troops had opened fire on 17 occasions on Ukrainian positions the previous day (including on 13 occasions in Donetsk region and on 4 occasions in Luhansk region;[115][116] spending 35 units of 120/82 mm calibre mortars ammunition[118]); the fire was returned on several occasions.[115][116] By noon of 16 July two ceasefire violations were registered.[118] The spokesman of the Ministry of Defence confirmed at noon that one Ukrainian serviceman was killed and another three were wounded in the Donbass region on 15 July.[118] Pro-Russian officials at Donetsk city recorded ten Ukrainian violations of the ceasefire in seven locations using small arms, heavy machine guns, automatic grenade launchers, 73 mm anti-tank recoilless rifles, 82 mm mortars, 120 mm mortars and 122 mm self-propelled artillery.[119] Pro-Russian authorities from the self-proclaimed Luhansk people's Republic reported that Ukrainian forces broke the ceasefire three times within the boundaries of the republic. The Ukrainian military employed anti-tank rocket launchers, 73 mm anti-tank recoilless rifles and 120 mm mortars to attack Ukrainian positions at Kalynove, Kalynove-Borshchevate and Vesela Hora.[120]

The press-centre of the JFO reported in the evening that pro-Russian military had opened fire on positions of Ukrainian troops by 6:00 pm on 2 more occasions; no casualties were reported.[121] By the end of the day total 8 ceasefire violations were registered, with no casualties on the Ukrainian side. In the eastern front, Opytne was struck by 82 mm and 120 mm mortar volleys. Pro-Russian forces attacked Verkhnyotoretske with heavy machine guns, anti-tank rockets and 73 mm anti-tank recoilless rifles. The area was also hit by anti-tank guided missiles. Novotroitske and Lebedinske received fire from small arms, heavy machine guns and grenade launchers. Ukrainian positions at Mykhailivka where struck by heavy machine gun fire and anti-tank rockets. Ukrainian troops at Krasnohorivka were harassed with small arms and heavy machine gun fire. In the northern area of operations, Krymske and Novoluhanske were fired at from small arms, heavy machine guns, grenade launchers and 82 mm mortars.[122][123] A number of ceasefire violations was reported by pro-Russian sources at Donetsk city by evening. Ukrainian forces attacked pro-Russian positions at Spartak, Yasne and Donetsk airport in the outskirts of Donetsk city, Dolomitne, in the area of Horlivka, and, in the region of Mariupol, Sakhanka and Uzhivka. In the main incidents, Spartak and Sakhanka were hit by 82 mm and 120 mm mortar volleys. Dolomitne was also shelled with 82 mm mortars. BMP-1 armoured vehicles from Vodiane engaged pro-Russian redoubts at Uzhivka.[124][125]

According to the information provided by the spokesman of the Ukrainian operational headquarters in the morning, pro-Russian troops had opened fire on 8 occasions on Ukrainian positions the previous day (including on 6 occasions in Donetsk region and twice in Luhansk region); the fire was returned on several occasions.[122][123] By noon of 17 July four ceasefire violations were registered.[126] The spokesman of the Ministry of Defence reported at noon no casualties in the Donbass region on 16 July.[126] Pro-Russian authorities at Donetsk city recorded 12 Ukrainian violations of the ceasefire in seven locations using small arms, heavy machine guns, automatic grenade launchers, 73 mm anti-tank recoilless rifles, 82 mm mortars, 120 mm mortars, armoured personnel carriers and armoured fighting vehicles.[127] No violations of the truce were reported by pro-Russian authorities of the self-proclaimed Luhansk People's Republic.[128]

The press-centre of the JFO reported in the evening that by 6:00 pm pro-Russian military had opened fire on positions of Ukrainian troops on 6 occasions.[129] By the end of the day total 15 ceasefire violations were registered; no casualties were reported by the Ukrainian side. In the eastern front, anti-tank guided missiles landed around Pisky. Pro-Russian armoured fighting vehicles engaged Ukrainian redoubts at Bohdanivka supported by small arms, heavy machine guns, automatic grenade launchers and anti-tank rocket launchers. Pro-Russian forces also attacked Pavlopil using heavy machine guns and automatic grenade launchers. Ukrainian positions at Vodiane and Talakivka received fire from 73 mm anti-tank recoilless rifles. Nikolaevka and Marinka were fired at from heavy machine guns and anti-tank rocket launchers. Ukrainian troops at Shyrokyne were harassed with small arms and heavy machine gun fire. Heavy machine gun fire was reported at Krasnohorivka. In the northern area of operations, Katerinivka was attacked with heavy machine guns, automatic grenade launchers and 82 mm mortars.[130][131] A series of Ukrainian violations of the truce were reported by pro-Russian sources at Donetsk city by evening. Most incidents occurred in the region of Mariupol, where Sakhanka, Novoshyrokivske, Uzhivka, Pikuzy and Dzerzhinske came under hostile fire. Pikuzy and Novoshirokivske became the target of 120 mm mortars. Dzerzhinske was shelled with 82 mm mortars. In the area of Horlivka, 120 mm mortar volleys landed in Dolomitne. BMP-1 armoured vehicles from Krasnohrivka engaged pro-Russian positions at Staromykhailivka.[132] Olenivka was left without electrical power as a result of the shelling.[133]

“A new lasting ceasefire” from midnight on 21 July (at 00:01 am[134]) was agreed upon in Minsk.[135][136]

18 July[edit]

The spokesman of the Ukrainian operational headquarters reported in the morning, that pro-Russian troops had opened fire on 15 occasions on Ukrainian positions the previous day (including on 14 occasions in Donetsk and once in Luhansk region); the fire was returned on all occasions.[130][131] By noon of 18 July one ceasefire violation was registered, at Pisky, with no casualties on the Ukrainian side; the fire was returned.[137] The spokesman of the Ministry of Defence reported at noon no casualties in the Donbass region on 17 July.[137] Pro-Russian authorities at Donetsk city recorded 14 Ukrainian violations of the ceasefire in ten locations using small arms, heavy machine guns, automatic grenade launchers, 73 mm anti-tank recoilless rifles, 82 mm mortars, 120 mm mortars, armoured personnel carriers and armoured fighting vehicles.[138] Pro-Russian authorities from the self-proclaimed Luhansk people's Republic reported that Ukrainian forces broke the ceasefire three times within the boundaries of the republic. The Ukrainian military employed heavy machine guns, automatic grenade launchers, 73 mm anti-tank recoilless rifles and 82 mm mortars to attack Ukrainian positions at Pervomaisk, Zolote and Kalynove-Borshchevate.[139]

According to the information provided by the press-centre of the JFO in the evening, from 00:01 am to 6:00 pm pro-Russian military had opened fire on positions of Ukrainian troops on 6 occasions — one Ukrainian soldier was wounded.[140] By the end of the day total 10 ceasefire violations were registered, the total number of Ukrainian casualties had amounted to one serviceman killed and another two wounded.[141][142] A number of ceasefire violations was reported by pro-Russian sources at Donetsk city by evening. Ukrainian forces attacked pro-Russian positions at Staromykhailivka, Yasynuvata, Vesele and Vasilyevka, in the outskirts of Donetsk city, Dolomitne and Mykhailivka, Gagarin mining complex and 6/7 mining complex, in the area of Horlivka, and, in the region of Mariupol, Pikuzy and Starolaspa. In the main incidents, Dolomitne, Staromykhailivka, Vesele and Pikuzy were hit by 120 mm mortar barrages. Dolomitne, Yasynuvata, Mykhailivka and Vesele were also shelled with 82 mm mortars. BMP-2 armoured vehicles from Krasnohorivka and Talakivka opened fire on pro-Russian redoubts at Staromykhailivka and Pikuzy.[143]

According to the information provided by the spokesman of the Ukrainian operational headquarters in the morning, pro-Russian troops had opened fire on 10 occasions on Ukrainian positions the previous day (including on 9 occasions in Donetsk region and once in Luhansk region); the fire was returned on all occasions.[141][142] By noon of 19 July two ceasefire violations were registered, with no casualties on the Ukrainian side.[144] The spokesman of the Ministry of Defence confirmed at noon that one Ukrainian serviceman was killed and another two were wounded in the Donbass region on 18 July.[144] Pro-Russian authorities at Donetsk city recorded 23 Ukrainian violations of the ceasefire in 14 locations using small arms, heavy machine guns, snipers, automatic grenade launchers, 73 mm anti-tank recoilless rifles, 82 mm mortars, 120 mm mortars, armoured personnel carriers and armoured fighting vehicles.[145]

The press-centre of the JFO reported in the evening that by 6:00 pm pro-Russian military had opened fire on positions of Ukrainian troops on 3 occasions — no casualties were reported by the Ukrainian side.[146] By the end of the day total 26 ceasefire violations were registered, two Ukrainian servicemen were killed and another three were injured;[136][147][148] A 60-year-old civilian died of wounds in a hospital in Krasnohorivka.[136][148] Pro-Russian sources told the press that Ukrainian forces had broken the ceasefire on several occasions by evening. Yasynuvata, Volvo Center, Trudivske and Oleksandrivka, in the environs of Donetsk city, Zaitseve, Gagarin mining complex, and Dolomitne, in the area of Horlivka, and, in the region of Mariupol, Zaichenko, Krasnoarmyisk, Pikuzy, Samsonove and Uzhivka, came under hostile fire. In the main incidents, 152 mm self-propelled artillery shelled Samsonove, while 122 mm artillery volleys landed in Zaichenko. Tanks from Vodiane launched a sustained attack on pro-Russian positions at Uzhivka. Dolomitne, Pikuzy, Trudivske, Gagarin and Oleksandrivka received fire from 120 mm mortars. Trudivske, Oleksandrivka, Krasnoarmyisk and Zaichenko came under 82 mm mortar fire.[149][150]

20 July[edit]

The spokesman of the Ukrainian operational headquarters reported in the morning, that pro-Russian troops had opened fire on 26 occasions on Ukrainian positions the previous day (including on 20 occasions in Donetsk and on 6 occasions in Luhansk region, spending 7 units of 122 mm calibre artillery's and about 35 units of 120/82 mm calibre mortars' ammunition;[151] the fire was returned on all occasions.[147] By noon 20 July seven ceasefire violations were registered; one Ukrainian soldier was wounded as a result.[151] The spokesman of the Ministry of Defence reported at noon, that one Ukrainian serviceman was killed by a sniper, another soldier died of wounds, and another three suffered combat related injuries in the Donbass region on 19 July.[151] Pro-Russian authorities at Donetsk city recorded 18 Ukrainian violations of the ceasefire in 12 locations using small arms, heavy machine guns, automatic grenade launchers, 73 mm anti-tank recoilless rifles, 82 mm mortars, 120 mm mortars, tanks, 122 mm and 152 mm self-propelled artillery.[150] Pro-Russian authorities from the self-proclaimed Luhansk People's Republic reported that Ukrainian forces broke the ceasefire once within the boundaries of the republic, when Ukrainian troops from Zolote fired 120 mm mortars at Molodezhne.[152]

According to the information provided by the press-centre of the JFO in the evening, as of 6:00 pm two more violations were registered, with no further casualties on the Ukrainian side.[153] By the end of the day total 26 ceasefire violations were registered, the total number of Ukrainian casualties had amounted to two servicemen wounded.[154][155] A series of ceasefire violations was reported by pro-Russian sources at Donetsk city by evening. Ukrainian forces attacked pro-Russian positions at Vasilyevka, Oleksandrivka, Kruta Balka, Dokuchaievsk, Signalne, Panteleymonivka, Olenivka and Staromykhailivka in the outskirts of Donetsk city, Zaitseve, Dolomitne, Shyroka Balka and Holmivsky, in the area of Horlivka, and, in the region of Mariupol, Pikuzy, Uzhivka, Zaichenko and Nova Tavryia. In the main incidents, 120 mm mortar barrages struck pro-Russian positions at Oleksandrivka, Shyroka Balka, Vasilyevka, Dolomitne, Olenivka and Signalne. Holmivsky, Zaitseve, Uzhivka and Panteleymonivka became the target of 82 mm mortars. BMP-1 armoured vehicles from Vodiane and Marinka engaged pro-Russian redoubts at Pikuzy and Oleksandrivka, while BMP-2 armoured vehicles from Novotroitske, Krasnohorivka, Zaitseve and Taramchuk opened fire on Dokuchaievsk, Staromykhailivka, Holmivsky and Olenivka. Nova Tavryia and Kruta Balka received fire from 73 mm anti-tank recoilless rifles.[156]

21 July[edit]

According to the information provided by the spokesman of the Ukrainian operational headquarters in the morning, pro-Russian troops had opened fire on 26 occasions on Ukrainian positions the previous day (on 13 occasions both in Donetsk region and in Luhansk region); the fire was returned on several occasions.[154][155] By noon of 21 July no ceasefire violations were registered.[157] The spokesman of the Ministry of Defence confirmed at noon that two Ukrainian servicemen were wounded in the Donbass region on 20 July.[157] Pro-Russian authorities at Donetsk city recorded 23 Ukrainian violations of the ceasefire in 17 locations using small arms, heavy machine guns, automatic grenade launchers, 73 mm anti-tank recoilless rifles, 82 mm mortars, 120 mm mortars, armoured personnel carriers and armoured fighting vehicles.[158] According to local officials, the Ukrainian military broke the ceasefire nine times within the borders of the self-styled Luhansk People's Republic. Ukrainian forces used small arms, heavy machine guns, under-barrel launched grenades, automatic grenade launchers, 73 mm anti-tank recoilless rifles, 82 mm mortars, 120 mm mortars and BMP-1 armoured vehicles to engage pro-Russian positions at Lohvynove, Pervomaisk, Kalynove and Nyzhnie Lozove. A female civilian resident was killed at Pervomaisk, and seven other civilians were wounded when a building was hit by 120 mm mortar rounds. Pro-Russian forces returned fire.[159]

The press-centre of the JFO reported in the evening that by 6:00 pm no ceasefire violations were registered.[160] By the end of the day 1 ceasefire violation was registered in the northern front at Vilnyi, where pro-Russian armoured fighting vehicles engaged Ukrainian positions supported by heavy machine gun fire. In a separate incident, two Ukrainan servicemen were killed and another two were wounded by explosion of an unidentified explosive device.[161][162] A number of ceasefire violations were reported by pro-Russian authorities by evening. Vasilyevka, in the outskirts of Donetsk city, Mykhailivka, Verkhnyotoretske and Gagarin mining complex, in the area of Horlivka, and, in the region of Mariupol, Nova Tavrya, came under attack. The incidents involved the use of small arms, heavy machine guns, automatic grenade launchers and anti-tank rocket launchers.[163]

Since the recommitment to ceasefire entered into force on 21 July and until the end of September, the conflict had resulted in 26 Ukrainian servicemen dead and 75 wounded.[164][165][166]

22 July[edit]

The spokesman of the Ukrainian operational headquarters reported in the morning, that pro-Russian troops had opened fire on 1 occasion on Ukrainian positions the previous day, at Vilnyi.[161] The spokesman of the Ministry of Defence reported at noon no combat related casualties in the Donbass region on 21 July;[167] two Ukrainian servicemen were killed and another two were wounded by explosion of an unidentified explosive device, the spokesman added.[167][168] Pro-Russian authorities at Donetsk city recorded seven Ukrainian violations of the ceasefire in six locations using small arms, heavy machine guns, automatic grenade launchers and anti-tank rocket launchers.[169] Pro-Russian officials from the self-proclaimed Luhansk People's Republic reported that Ukrainian forces broke the ceasefire on one occasion, when pro-Russian troops at Pervomaisk took fire from small arms and under-barrel grenade launchers.[170]

According to the information provided by the press-centre of the JFO in the evening, as of 6:00 pm no ceasefire violations were registered by the Ukrainian side.[171] The ceasefire was holding by the end of the day, according to the information provided by the spokesman of the Ukrainian operational headquarters.[172][173] Pro-Russian sources at Donetsk city reported that Staromykhailivka and Signalne, in the surroundings of Donetsk city, and, in the area of Horlivka, Holmivsky and izotove, received fire from small arms, snipers, anti-tank rockets and 73 mm anti-tank rounds.[174]

23 July[edit]

According to the information provided by the spokesman of the Ukrainian operational headquarters in the morning, no ceasefire violations were registered on the previous day.[172][173] By noon of 23 July one ceasefire violation was registered, at Luhanske, with no casualties on the Ukrainian side; the fire was not returned.[134] The spokesman of the Ministry of Defence reported at noon no casualties in the Donbass region on 22 July.[134] Pro-Russian officials at Donetsk city recorded five Ukrainian violations of the ceasefire in five locations using small arms, snipers and anti-tank rocket launchers.[175] No ceasefire violations were reported by pro-Russian authorities within the borders of the self-proclaimed Luhansk People's Republic.[176]

The press-centre of the JFO reported in the evening that by 6:00 pm no further ceasefire violations were registered.[177] By the end of the day total 1 ceasefire violation was registered, when pro-Russian forces opened fire on Ukrainian positions at Luhanske using small arms and automatic grenade launchers.[178][179] A number of Ukrainian violations of the truce were reported by pro-Russian officials by evening. Dokuchaievsk, Kruta Balka and Vasilyevka, in the outskirts of Donetsk city, and, in the area of Horlivka, Dolomitne, Gagarin mining complex and 6/7 mining complex, came under enemy fire. Ukrainian forces from Novotroitske engaged pro-Russian positions at Dokuchaievsk with snipers, 73 mm anti-tank recoilless rifles and 82 mm mortars. Vasilyevka received fire from small arms and automatic grenade launchers; anti-tank rockets landed meanwhile in Kruta Balka. Small arms fire was reported at Dolomitne, Gagarin and 6/7 mining complex.[180]

24 July[edit]

The spokesman of the Ukrainian operational headquarters reported in the morning, that pro-Russian troops had opened fire on 1 occasion on Ukrainian positions the previous day, at Luhanske; the fire was not returned.[178][179] By noon of 24 July no ceasefire violations were registered.[181] The spokesman of the Ministry of Defence reported at noon no casualties in the Donbass region on 23 July.[181] Pro-Russian officials at Donetsk city recorded nine Ukrainian violations of the ceasefire in six locations using small arms, snipers and anti-tank rocket launchers, 73 mm anti-tank recoilless rifles and 82 mm mortars.[182] Authorities from the self-styled Luhansk People's Republic recorded no ceasefire violations within the republic boundaries.[183]

According to the information provided by the press-centre of the JFO in the evening no ceasefire violations by pro-Russian military were registered during the first 18 hours of the day.[184][185] No ceasefire violations were reported by the end of the day either.[186][187] Pro-Russian authorities reported a rocket attack in Trudivske, in the surroundings of Donetsk city, and small arms fire at Dolomitne and Gagarin mining complex, in the area of Horlivka.[188]

25 July[edit]

According to the information provided by the spokesman of the Ukrainian operational headquarters in the morning, no ceasefire violations were registered the previous day.[186][187] By noon of 25 July (as of 00:30 pm) one ceasefire violation was registered, at Prychepylivka, at around 00:17 am, where one Ukrainian soldier was wounded.[189] The spokesman of the Ministry of Defence reported at noon no casualties in the Donbass region on 24 July.[189] Pro-Russian authorities at Donetsk city recorded three Ukrainian violations of the ceasefire in three locations using small arms, snipers and anti-tank rocket launchers.[190] Sources of the self-proclaimed Luhansk People's Republic reported no ceasefire violations within the republic's borders.[191]

The press-centre of the JFO reported in the evening that by 6:00 pm no further ceasefire violations by pro-Russian military were registered.[192] One incident was recorded by the end of the day, when Ukrainian positions at Prychepylivka received small arms and anti-tank rocket fire from pro-Russian positions at Zholobok.[193][194] Pro-Russian officials from Donetsk city reported that a farmer was killed while at work in the buffer zone near Zaitseve by the explosion of a directional mine. According to the release, Ukrainian special forces had planted three anti-personnel devices in the area the night before.[195] Two other violations of the truce were reported by the same sources by evening. Yasynuvata, in the outskirts of Donetsk city, and Pikuzy, in the region of Mariupol, received small arms and heavy machine gun fire from Ukrainian positions at Avdiivka and Vodiane.[196]

26 July[edit]

The spokesman of the Ukrainian operational headquarters reported in the morning, that pro-Russian troops had opened fire on one occasion on Ukrainian positions the previous day;[193][194] the fire was not returned.[197] By noon of 26 July no ceasefire violations were registered.[197] The spokesman of the Ministry of Defence confirmed at noon that one Ukrainian serviceman was wounded in the Donbass region on 25 July.[197] Pro-Russian authorities at Donetsk city recorded four Ukrainian violations of the ceasefire in four locations using small arms and heavy machine guns.[198] For the fourth consecutive day, pro-Russian authorities from the Luhansk People's Republic reported no Ukrainian violations of the truce.[199]

According to the information provided by the press-centre of the JFO in the evening no ceasefire violations by pro-Russian military were registered by 6:00 pm.[200] No ceasefire violations were reported by the end of the day either.[201] By evening, pro-Russian officials reported three Ukrainian violations of the ceasefire using 73 mm anti-tank recoilless rifles, 82 mm mortars and 120 mm mortars. The incidents took place around Donetsk city at Volvo Center, which was hit by a single 82 mm mortar round, and, in the region of Mariupol, Pikuzy, which also received a single 120 mm mortar shot, and Petrovske, which became the target of 73 mm anti-tank recoilless rifles.[202]

27 July[edit]

According to the information provided by the spokesman of the Ukrainian operational headquarters in the morning, no ceasefire violations were registered on the previous day.[201] By noon of 27 July one ceasefire violation was registered, at Krymske, where automatic grenade launchers were employed and one Ukrainian serviceman (born in 1989)[203] was wounded as a result.[204] The spokesman of the Ministry of Defence reported at noon no casualties in the Donbass region on 26 July.[205] Pro-Russian officials at Donetsk city recorded three Ukrainian violations of the ceasefire in three locations anti-tank rocket launchers, 82 mm mortars and 120 mm mortars.[206]

The press-centre of the JFO reported in the evening no further ceasefire violations by 6:00 pm.[207] No further ceasefire violations were registered by the end of the day either.[203] Pro-Russian authorities from Donetsk city reported by evening that in the region of Mariupol, Ukrainian forces from Shyrokyne engaged Ukrainian positions at Sakhanka with small arms fire and anti-tank rockets.[208] An 82 mm mortar barrage was fired at Spartak, in the western outskirts of Donetsk city.[209]

28 July[edit]

The spokesman of the Ukrainian operational headquarters reported in the morning, that pro-Russian troops had opened fire on Ukrainian positions once on the previous day; the fire was not returned.[203] By noon of 28 July no ceasefire violations were registered.[204] The spokesman of the Ministry of Defence confirmed at noon that one Ukrainian serviceman was wounded in the Donbass region on 27 July.[204] Pro-Russian authorities at Donetsk city recorded two Ukrainian violations of the ceasefire in two locations using small arms, anti-tank rocket launchers and 82 mm mortars.[210]

According to the information provided by the press-centre of the JFO in the evening, no further ceasefire violations were registered by 6:00 pm.[211] One incident was registered later in the evening, when the Ukrainian checkpoint at Marinka received heavy machine gun fire from pro-Russian positions.[212][213] Separatist sources from Donetsk city told the press that pro-Russian troops at Sakhanka were harassed with small arms fire from Lebedinske.[214]

According to the information provided by the spokesman of the Ukrainian operational headquarters in the morning, pro-Russian troops had opened fire on 3 occasions on Ukrainian positions the previous day, twice in Donetsk and once in Luhansk region.[391][392] By noon of 24 August two ceasefire violations were registered.[394] The spokesman of the Ministry of Defence reported at noon no casualties in the Donbass region on 23 August.[394] Pro-Russian sources at Donetsk city recorded seven Ukrainian violations of the ceasefire in five locations using small arms, heavy machine guns, automatic grenade launchers, 82 mm mortars and 120 mm mortars.[395] Local authorities from the self-proclaimed Luhansk People's Republic reported one Ukrainian violation of the truce, when Lozove received fire from heavy machine guns and 73 mm anti-tank recoilless rifles.[396]

The press-centre of the JFO reported in the evening no further ceasefire violations by 6:00 pm.[397] By the end of the day total 5 ceasefire violations were registered, with no casualties on the Ukrainian side. In the eastern area of operations, Vodiane, Pavlopil and Marinka became the target of small arms, heavy machine guns and different grenade-launcher systems. In the northern front, Ukrainian positions at Novoluhanske received fire from small arms fire, heavy machine guns and automatic grenade launchers.[398] Pro-Russian sources from Donetsk city reported that BMP-2 armoured vehicles from Novoluhanske engaged pro-Russian positions at Dolomitne by evening.[399]

The spokesman of the Ukrainian operational headquarters reported in the morning, that pro-Russian troops had opened fire on 5 occasions on Ukrainian positions the previous day — on 4 occasions in Donetsk region and once in Luhansk region.[398] By morning of 25 August (as of 11:00 am) four ceasefire violations were registered; two Ukrainian soldiers were wounded as a result.[400][401] The spokesman of the Ministry of Defence reported at noon no casualties in the Donbass region on 24 August.[400][401] Pro-Russian officials at Donetsk city recorded three Ukrainian violations of the ceasefire in three locations using small arms, armoured personnel carriers and armoured fighting vehicles.[402] Pro-Russian authorities from the self-proclaimed Luhansk People's Republic reported one Ukrainian violation of the ceasefire, when Ukrainian forces used automatic grenade launchers to shell pro-Russian positions at Nyzhnie Lozove.[403]

According to the information provided by the press-centre of the JFO in the evening, pro-Russian military had opened fire on positions of Ukrainian troops on three more occasions by 6:00 pm — wounding another two Ukrainian servicemen, including one fatally.[404] One of the wounded servicemen died of wounds later in a hospital.[405] By the end of the day total 13 ceasefire violations were registered, with no further casualties on the Ukrainian side. Spartak, in the outskirts of Donetsk city, Zheleznaya Balka and Gagarin mining complex, in the area of Horlivka, and, in the region of Mariupol, Pikuzy and Uzhivka, came under hostile fire. In the main incidents, BMP-1 armoured vehicles launched a sustained attack on Ukrainian redoubts at Zheleznaya Balka, supported by 82 mm and 120 mm mortar fire. Spartak was hit by 82 mm mortar volleys.[409]

According to the information provided by the spokesman of the Ukrainian operational headquarters in the morning, pro-Russian troops had opened fire on 13 occasions on Ukrainian positions the previous day (including on 10 occasions in Donetsk and on 3 occasions in Luhansk region).[406][407] By noon of 26 August six ceasefire violations were registered, one Ukrainian soldier was wounded in the course.[410] The spokesman of the Ministry of Defence confirmed at noon that one Ukrainian serviceman was killed and another three were wounded in the Donbass region on 25 August.[410] Pro-Russian officials at Donetsk city recorded eight Ukrainian violations of the ceasefire in seven locations using small arms, heavy machine guns, 82 mm mortars, 120 mm mortars, armoured personnel carriers and armoured fighting vehicles.[411] No ceasefire violations were reported by authorities from the self-proclaimed Luhansk People's Republic.[412]

According to the information provided by the spokesman of the Ukrainian operational headquarters in the morning, pro-Russian troops had opened fire on 10 occasions on Ukrainian positions the previous day (including on 8 occasions in Donetsk and twice in Luhansk region).[422][423] By noon of 28 August four ceasefire violations were registered, with no reported casualties on the Ukrainian side.[426] The spokesman of the Ministry of Defence confirmed at noon that one Ukrainian serviceman was wounded in the Donbass region on 27 August.[426] Pro-Russian officials at Donetsk city recorded six Ukrainian violations of the ceasefire in three locations using small arms, heavy machine guns, 82 mm mortars, 120 mm mortars and tanks.[425] Pro-Russian authorities from the self-proclaimed Luhansk People's Republic reported that Ukrainian forces broke the ceasefire on one occasion, when Ukrainian forces attacked pro-Russian positions at Nyzhnie Lozove with small arms, heavy machine guns and automatic grenade launchers.[427]

In the northern front, pro-Russian armoured fighting vehicles from Dolomitne opened fire on Ukrainian forces at Novoluhanske supported by small arms, anti-tank rocket launchers and 120 mm mortars. Gagarin mining complex and Sakhanka received fire from 82 mm mortars. BMP-2 armoured vehicles from Yuzhne engaged pro-Russian positions at Gagarin.[432] A water truck at Hryhorivka was prevented from reaching pro-Russian positions after becoming the target of infantry weapons and automatic grenade launchers.[433] Three civilian residences were hit at Zaitseve and two others at Gagarin.[434]

The spokesman of the Ukrainian operational headquarters reported in the morning, that pro-Russian troops had opened fire on 14 occasions on Ukrainian positions the previous day (on 7 occasions both in Donetsk and in Luhansk region);[429][430] the fire was returned on several occasions.[435] By noon of 29 August five ceasefire violations were registered, with no casualties on the Ukrainian side.[435] A skirmish between the warring parties took place in the area of Svitlodarsk at around 02:00 am, where a pro-Russian scout was wounded and captured by Ukrainian forces.[436] The spokesman of the Ministry of Defence reported at noon no casualties in the Donbass region on 28 August.[435] Pro-Russian authorities at Donetsk city recorded 13 Ukrainian violations of the ceasefire in eight locations using small arms, heavy machine guns, automatic grenade launchers, 73 mm anti-tank recoilless rifles, 82 mm mortars, 120 mm mortars, armoured personnel carriers, armoured fighting vehicles and 122 mm self-propelled artillery.[434] Pro-Russian sources from the self-proclaimed Luhansk People's Republic reported that Ukrainian forces broke the ceasefire two times within the boundaries of the republic. The Ukrainian military used heavy machine guns, automatic grenade launchers, anti-tank rocket launchers, 73 mm anti-tank recoilless rifles and 120 mm mortars to shell Ukrainian positions at Nyzhnie Lozove and Holubovske. Four civilian buildings were damaged.[437]

Ukrainian troops at Pivdenne received fire from small arms and automatic grenade launchers.[439][440] Pro-Russian officials from Donetsk city recorded several Ukrainian violations of the ceasefire throughout the day. Spartak, Hryhorivka, Oleksandrivka and Mineralne, in the surroundings of Donetsk city, Zaitseve, Dolomitne and Gagarin mining complex, in the area of Horlivka, and Pikuzy, in the region of Mariupol, came under hostile fire. In the main incidents, Dolomitne, Hryhorivka and Spartak came under 120 mm mortar fire; 82 mm mortar barrages landed meanwhile in Zaitseve, Mineralne, Pikuzy and Dolomitne. BMP-2 armoured vehicles from Talakivka engaged pro-Russian redoubts at Pikuzy, which also received fire from ZU-23-2 anti-aircraft guns.[441] Pikuzy's cultural centre and two civilian buildings were damaged. Two houses were also hit at Zaitseve.[442] The same sources reported an ambush on pro-Russian troops by members of the Azov Battalion. One pro-Russian soldier was killed, another wounded and three captured in the early hours of the morning.[443] The wounded soldier was recovered by friendly forces and admitted to the military hospital at Chasov Yar with stab weapons.[444] The Ukrainian military confirmed that soldiers from the Azov Battalion beat off an infiltration attempt by pro-Russian infantry in the area of Svitlodarsk, in the northern front; four separatists were killed while another was wounded and taken prisoner.[436]

According to the information provided by the spokesman of the Ukrainian operational headquarters in the morning, pro-Russian troops had opened fire on 17 occasions on Ukrainian positions the previous day (including on 10 occasions in Donetsk region and on 7 occasions in Luhansk region);[439][440] the fire was returned on several occasions.[436] By noon of 30 August four ceasefire violations were registered; one Ukrainian soldier was killed in shelling.[436][445] The spokesman of the Ministry of Defence reported at noon no casualties in the Donbass region on 29 August.[436] Pro-Russian authorities at Donetsk city recorded 16 Ukrainian violations of the ceasefire in nine locations using small arms, heavy machine guns, automatic grenade launchers, 73 mm anti-tank recoilless rifles, 82 mm mortars, 120 mm mortars, anti-aircraft guns, armoured personnel carriers and armoured fighting vehicles.[442] Pro-Russian sources from the self-proclaimed Luhansk people's Republic reported that Ukrainian forces broke the ceasefire two times within the boundaries of the republic. The Ukrainian military used different grenade-launcher systems and 120 mm mortars to attack pro-Russian positions at Nyzhnie Lozove.[446]

The spokesman of the Ukrainian operational headquarters reported in the morning, that pro-Russian troops had opened fire on 17 occasions on Ukrainian positions the previous day (including on 11 occasions in Donetsk region and on 6 occasions in Luhansk region);[448][449] the fire was returned on several occasions.[453] By noon of 31 August four ceasefire violations were registered.[453] The spokesman of the Ministry of Defence confirmed at noon that one Ukrainian serviceman was killed and another wounded in the Donbass region on 30 August.[453] Pro-Russian sources at Donetsk city recorded 21 Ukrainian violations of the ceasefire in 12 locations using small arms, heavy machine guns, automatic grenade launchers, 73 mm anti-tank recoilless rifles, 82 mm mortars, 120 mm mortars and a rocket-armed drone.[454] Officials from the self-proclaimed Luhansk People's Republic recorded four attacks by the Ukrainian military inside the republic's borders. Ukrainian forces used small arms, heavy machine guns and 73 mm anti-tank recoilless rifles engaged pro-Russian positions at Zolote, Lozove, Kalynove and Pryshybi. Two civilian buildings were damaged at Zolote.[455]

In the northern area of operations, pro-Russian armoured fighting vehicles engaged Ukrainian positions around Novoluhanske supported by small arms, heavy machine guns, automatic grenade launchers and 120 mm mortars. Troitske was hit by heavy machine gun fire, 82 mm mortar rounds and 120 mm mortar rounds. Luhansk, Shumy and Zaitseve received fire from anti-tank rocket launchers and 82 mm mortars. Small arms and heavy machine gun fire was also reported at Zaitseve and Shumy while Travneve became the target of heavy machine guns and anti-tank rocket launchers.[457][458] Separatist authorities at Donetsk city recorded a series of Ukrainian violations of the truce by the end of the day. Oleksandrivka, Mineralne and Trudivske, in the environs of Donetsk city, Zaitseve, Gagarin mining complex, 6/7 mining complex, Dolomitne and Holmivsky, in the area of Horlivka, and, in the region of Mariupol, Uzhivka, Dzerzhinske, Zaichenko, Nova Tavrya and Pikuzy, came under hostile fire. In the main incidents, pro-Russian forces at Vodiane launched two anti-tank missiles at Pikuzy from, which became the target of several attacks. Pro-Russian positions in the area were engaged by BMP-1 armoured vehicles from Vodiane, and the village also received intense fire from infantry weapons, snipers, 82 mm mortars and 120 mm mortars. BMP-2 from Vodiane added to the barrage when they launched a substantial attack on the settlement at sunset. BMP-1 armored vehicles also attacked Zaitseve from the northwest outskirts of the town, supported by infantry weapons, automatic grenade launchers, 82 mm mortars and 120 mm mortars. BMP-2 armoured vehicles from Metalist opened fire on pro-Russian positions at Holmivsky, supported by 82 mm and 120 mm mortar fire. Uzhivka became the subject of heavy shelling from 122 mm self-propelled artillery. Dzerzhinske, Dolomitne, Gagarin, Nova Tavrya, Zaichenko and Uzhivka received 120 mm mortar fire from Ukrainian positions; 82 mm mortar volleys also struck 6/7 mining complex, Dzerzhinske and Uzhivka. Pro-Russian positions at Gagarin were hit by RPO flamethrower rockets.[459] Nine civilian residences and commercial premises were set on fire or damaged by the intense shelling at Pikuzy. Three houses and a farm were also damaged at Zaitseve. Power lines were knocked down in Gagarin, leaving 5,000 users without electrical power.[460]
