The 2019 iHeartRadio Podcast Awards were held on January 18, 2019 at the iHeartRadio Theater in Los Angeles. Lenard McKelvey host of The Breakfast Club, Holly Frey co-host of Stuff You Missed in History Class, and Bobby Bones hosted the event. Mario Lopez hosted the livestream event.[1] Aaron Mahnke host of Lore, Payne Lindsey host of Up and Vanished, and Jake Brennan host of Disgraceland presented awards throughout the event. The ceremony's special awards went to Marc Smerling who won the Podcast Innovator Award, NPR which won the Podcast Pioneer Award,[2] and Ear Hustle which received the Social Impact Award. In addition to the three special awards there were twenty other categories that received awards. Atlanta Monster and Slow Burn received the most nominations with four each, followed by Dirty John and Stuff You Should Know both with three nominations.[3][4][5]
Attendees who did not receive nominations or awards included Mike Tyson host of the Hotboxin' Podcast, Brandi Cyrus and Wells Adams co-hosts of the Your Favorite Things Podcast, Dean Unglert co-host of The Help! I Suck at Dating podcast, Jillian Michaels host of the Jillian Michaels Show, Tanya Rad and Becca Tilley co-hosts of Scrubbin' In, and Scheana Marie host of the Scheananigans.[6]
Performances[edit]
Joshua Dudley of Forbes Magazine noted that the event did not have any performances or live entertainment like Podcon or the iHeartRadio Music Awards, which he believed made the show uninteresting.[7]
