The 2020 Portuguese Grand Prix (officially known as the Formula 1 Heineken Grande Prémio de Portugal 2020) is a Formula One motor race that is scheduled to took place on 25 October 2020 at the Algarve International Circuit in Portimão, Portugal. It will be the first Portuguese Grand Prix held since 1996 and the first time held at the Algarve International Circuit. The race is scheduled to be the twelfth round of the 2020 Formula One World Championship.
Background[edit]
Impact of the COVID-19 pandemic[edit]
The opening rounds of the 2020 Formula One World Championship were heavily affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. Several Grands Prix were cancelled or postponed after the aborted opening round in Australia, prompting the FIA to draft a new calendar. The Portuguese Grand Prix was not expected to feature on the 2020 calendar, but during the summer break, the FIA reworked the calendar in order to maximise the number of races in the season. The Portuguese Grand Prix was therefore confirmed for the 2020 Calendar.[1] Up to 45,000 fans are expected to attend the race.[2]
Entrants[edit]
The drivers and teams are due to be the same as those on the season entry list with no additional stand-in drivers for either the race or practice.
Tyres[edit]
Pirelli will bring their C1, C2 and C3 compound tyres for teams to use in the race.[3]
Practice[edit]
Pirelli will test the 2021 tyre compounds during free practice.[4]
Notes[edit]
- ↑ The outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic saw several Grands Prix cancelled or rescheduled. The revised calendar consists of seventeen races.
