The 2021 Banda Sea earthquake occurred on 29 December 2021. Its epicenter was near Romang Island in the Barat Daya Islands chain, 120 km northeast of Lospalos, East Timor. It had an estimated magnitude of 7.3 and a depth of approximately 170 km.[1][2][3]
The quake was felt as far away as Darwin in Australia.[4] Two homes in the Maluku Barat Daya Regency collapsed.[5]
