2021 spiking by injection allegations

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

In September and October 2021, a number of police services in British cities have been investigating reports of women having their drinks spiked in clubs, blacking out, and waking up to find a pinprick-like puncture wound on an arm, leg or lower back, which victims say is proof they have been drugged via injection.[1] 56 incidents of spiking by injection were recorded in September and October.[2] In Nottingham, where 15 reports of needle spiking were made in October, police identified one case where a victim's injury "could be consistent with a needle".[3]

Claims of spiking by injection have been propagated on social media, as well as other claims of drink spiking.[1][4][5] Concerns have been raised by campaigners, politicians and student bodies.[1] British home secretary Priti Patel has allegedly requested an urgent update from the police regarding these incidents.[4] Spiking by needle injection has been dismissed by experts as unlikely to be a widespread occurrence, as a working knowledge of drug injection would be necessary for an attacker and there are no known date rape drugs that could be injected in this manner.[1]

In response, a number of women from university cities decided to boycott nightclubs for a "girls' night in" on 27 October. Campaigners also called on nightclubs to impose tougher checks on entry; an online petition on the issue will be considered by Parliament.[2][6]
